Somalis the black identity and Rachel Dolezal

Post by jalaaludin5 »

The story of this lady relates directly to unresolved issues on this site between two opposing camps. The SOOMAALI BAAN AHAY camp Vs The Madow baan ahay camp.

Now coming back to Lady (Marwo) Rachel, here we have a woman who went out of her way to do good in the black community. A community she 'identified herself with' and was passionate about her work. So what she told a small white lie? Did that bring advantages in her life that she wouldn't have had if it was known that she was white? No. If anything, she put her life on the line. So what's the problem?

Most black people acknowledge her invaluable work only to contradict it with a 'BUT'.

But she is white and can never understand what's like to be black because she CANNOT RELATE.

If Rachel who is white American. Married to a black American. Who's children are black cannot relate to AA.....How the hell can a Somali relate to them?

If anything Rachel is more black than any Farax/xalimo I know of.

Rachel's ancestors were probably slave owners.
Somalis were nomads roaming the horn of Africa.

Rachel is physically, emotionally and psychologically more in tuned with blacks than any Somali but she is dismissed all because she is one shade lighter than the unofficial Requirements.

And quiet frankly. I think

Your POV is a valid one as many in my community also have that POV...however many also do not see it your way and have their own take on things. A mature person can look at others and respect their POV. So my suggestion is to live your life but respect the choices that others have made. Trust me you will have a lot less angst in your own life if you do.
