How about an Ahmed Guray rahimahullah film?
The Omar ramadan series got me thinking, why don't we do an Ahmed Guray film, using the book as basis.
We get reer Galbeed folks of different clans to play all the different qabiil roles as their dialect is closest to the old days, ie Reer Aw Xassan and shilabo folks.
We'd have to make sure the main Somali actors are bilingual and can speak Arabic proficiently, and also get some Eritrean lightskin brothers to play Habeshis and some Afars.
Get some tall Syrians to play Turks (we need all our actors to be proficient in Arabic), get some Yemenis and Moroccans.
And there you got a movie, the plot line is the same as the book, Ahmed being a young boy in the mountainous region between Saylac and Harar..... And he dies a shaheed at the end.
Maybe the Oromos could do a sequel of how they took Ethiopia.

I thought the same thing myself! We need to make a film on Ahmed Gurey as well as Sayyid Mohamed Abdullah Hassan.
I don't think it would be too difficult, especially with the advent of modern technology making it cheaper to produce films.

Wallahi NO idea is a new idea.
Different People (different backgrounds at different parts of the world) without ever hearing of each other's existence let alone each other's thought ideas or plans the same ideas/plans, will come up with the same ideas/planning being oblivious to the fact somewhere another person had the idea a long time before them as an 'original' not knowing even before this person, a 4th one had the same ideas and plans and put it into practice long before fully or tried at least.
Bellywood had already done the Sayidka (mad mullah as they've referred to him). A film by filmmaker Salah Ahmed in 1985 entitled The Somali Dervishes.

We have a complete good movie that was recorded by an indian company about ahmed gurey with Somali actors. It was from the kacan era, the indian company where not paid and they never released it. I saw a discussion about it a while back since the film is aging. I should've saved the contact info but im gonna look into it more.

Poor production, poor budget, good scenery, poor actors, poor editors.
I'd apply for acting role as Ahmad Gurey, after all the brother was born of Habar Magaadle according to Fath Al-Habasha.

What nonsense! Futah al habash never disclosed his clan! i would reckon ahmed gurey was a harla somali! but esentially his clan is unknownZubeirAwal wrote:Poor production, poor budget, good scenery, poor actors, poor editors.

Darod is a 19 century fabrication.
The terrain was gadabursigi
The place was gadabursigi
And the man offspring are gadabursigi
But hey hoo you can steal it if u want

I personally don't care what tribe he belonged to. All I have read is the term Gadabursi was a nickname given to members of Gurey's core army. There is a historical connection there, but much can be said for other clans too. His clan is pretty much speculation, although many Somalis claim him. The only thing we're certain of is he was reer galbeed and that's all.

Actually 2/3 of his somali army was darood 1/3 was northern dir whether it was gudibursi or isaaq idkTheMightyNomad wrote:he was definetly not a isaaq or a gadabursi since most of his army was pure darood two major nephews of his were Darood, his wife was a Darood, his sister married a Darood!djibsomali wrote:Gadabursi

Re: How about an Ahmed Guray rahimahullah film?
Yes, great idea.
A similar historical film about the Dervishes was already released in the eighties. It was Somali directed and featured one of Sayyid Hassan's actual descendants (not Muse Hassan, though). The movie apparently cost over $1 million USD to make and included hundreds of extras, so it was a major production.
Eventually, once further excavations in Somalia and elsewhere in the Horn yield more Puntite artefacts, a film on the ancient Land of Punt would make sense.
