The problem is,

Landers in general, look up or respect their elders.
In the south, politicians are younger and new on the political scene.

There are better candidates than Silanyo, Dahir, Warabe etc etc ...
But they don't have the right connections, enough financial support or base
to run for elections.

Anyway, there is a lot of tribalism in our political parties.
And I mean straight face bold cold tribalism, not "under the table tribalism"
like the one in the south. Only a well known man who made a name for himself and have the full support
of his tribesmen and the alliance in general can run for presidency.

This system managed to keep SL peaceful and intact compared to rest of Somalia.
But allowed incompetence, ex-Siad Barre puppets to run the show while more capable
candidates are overshadowed. Of course, it was a good option since 1997 and in wards because,
let's face it, there was no capable young generation to take the lead. Since the civil war in 1991, most young people with
their children moved to the west as refugee, so there was no better alternative than elders. But today, there are plenty of young university
graduates holders of Bachelors, Masters and PHD's who can take matters into hand but are overshadowed politically thanks to the reasons above.

I hope all those people who worked for the former regime
get forced to retire from politics and inject a new, fresh blood into the system.

This unproductive culture and practices are very dark and unsustainable on the long term.

Like he said.

These old men, have 1. made a name for themselves, 2. They have connections and financial backers who will benefit, 3. they have Tribal Allegiance and Alliance.

yes I agree Rambie. it takes time and patience to become the leader Of Somaliland. First you must have a brand, very famous person. Former SNM leaders like Silanyo, muse bihi abdirahman tolwaa and those who later Contributed Somaliland reconciliation process like haglotoosiye are the top highly respected individuals. followed by those who held high political positions (the lucky ones) . for example Irro has never been an important leader he was nominated as parliament speaker which contributed his rise . he was nothing compare to Gabose 2 years ago. Rayale was the same egal nominated him before he died. at that time awdal cowboy was mujahid Abdirahman tolwaayey. Next generation Somaliland leaders are

1.Hersi gaab So popular
2. Haglotoosiye popular
3. ahmed yasin sheikh ali ayanle popular
4. Abdi karim ahmed moge Ultra nationalist.
5. Cabdi shakuur ciddin People's best boy.

These guys will be national politician next two decades. I know at least 2 of them will be in the presidential place.

Abdi aw dahir will be gone after this government. he is already too old.

Axmed yaasiin has a bright political future. the public like him he just needs to be trained as an executive politician. silanyo should have hired this guy.

Xaglotoosiye has fully integrated the system. The guy loves health he is going to be the longest serving minister of health. lool
