The vast majority of the Syrian military is Sunni.

The Saudis are finally doing something good for a change. Just don't give it to ISIS or any other Jihadi groups.

Turkey can only talk they cannot do anythin, without killing their economy.
Have you noticed that Turkey did not level any sanctions on Russia!
and depends on Russian gas to keep their economy alive...

any violence towards Russia and their economy comes to a stop, and nobody can save them.

Gurey25, actually, Russia needs Turkey more than Turkey needs them.

Putins economy is totally dependent on exporting gas and oil. Something like 70% of their revenue comes from selling gas.

Turkey is part of Turkey and it would act in concert with other members.

If Russia could cripple economies, why didn't they turn off the faucet when Europe imposed sanctions on them? They even sanctioned the heads of major Russian heads of companies.

old western propaganda...
Russia seems to be doing pretty good with the sanctions, its Europeans that are crying..
and sanctions are a blessing..

if you read or watch anything other than western media,
you will notice the glee the Russians feel for sanctions,
it allows them the ability to restructure their economy without breaking agreements signed.

Right now Russian cars and trucks are doing better than ever, even exporting more due to the weak ruble,
the weak ruble is also leading to machinery exports.
Russian agriculture is experiencing a boom due to sanctions.

and Putin has said that the agricultural markets for european agricultural exports will never return, even after sanctions are lifted.
Sanctions provide cover for Russian subsidies and protection for a variety of industries,
and they have signed international agreements during the yeltsin years like idiots, forcing them to open their markets..

The future looks fantastic for russia..

last thing remaining is the central bank wich is western controlled,
but putin must have a devious plan because the new chairman nibuilyana is a close friend..
and her actions have been very confusing for outsiders.
they are bipolar, on one side by raising interest rates they hit speculators really hard, and by not propping up the ruble they did not waste reserves.
The massive gold buying is also pro russian,
but other actions are also anti-russian, and she has been named central banker of the year, by other bankers.

as usual putin has a devious plan to slowly achieve control over the central bank,
but because it is so sensitive to the west it will be the last resort.

Offtopic, but i'd like to know how industrialized Turkey is compared to Western European state, and how powerful is it's military compared to mid size European countries (France, UK, Italy, Spain)?

turkey is not like these industrialized countries but, like israel, it has its own defensive companies and can develope and upgrade any weapon..its the second after israel in the middle east..

Sells small and light arms to these westren countries just like china and heavy weapons and defensive systems to eastren europe, asia and the arabs....turkeys arms sells revenue is over $1bn per year

The importance of turkey lies in its economic growth, stongest islamic economy, being the second after china in 2011. Now as the party behind this economic miracle cant form of one party govt things r going bad economically for turkey so a new elections will be held...the ruling party has lost the votes of minorities bc of syria

Since this party took office in 2000 turkey has been changing a lot as its annual exports reached $155bn let alone its abroad investments. Turkey looks like now paris interms of locally produced fast trains and railways

Just like how putin is popular in russia

Egyptians are like that; taxyaa misr!

Anaga wadan ma ba naqaan!

Turkey has the best US military aircrafts but sells its own locally produced aircrafts to others

With a Per capita GDP of around 18,000 it is in the range of poland and hungary, it is much richer and developed than Bulgaria, Romania and Yugoslavia, but not as developed as Western countries.
Its exports are low to medium tech products , exactly the same range of products that China exports, so its a competitor,
Turkish brand names like BECO dominate in Europe, the Auto industry and Shipbuilding industry is world class and its light rail is one of the best in the world.

Turkey has allot of High tech firms producing millitary products like Aseslan for Radar and communications,
they can modify and produce allot of their weapons but not of the same level as isreal. e.g F-16 are built in Turkey.

What makes Turkey different from Western europe is the size of its millitary.
Its about the same size as the UK and France combined, but its weapons systems are of little lower tech level, even though they are NATO standard.
Turkey has more tanks and armoured vehicles than France, UK and Spain combined, but its airforce is of the size of France.

Turkies biggest problem is energy insecurity, it makes up a major part of exports, they should have built allot of nuclear plants like france decades ago, they would not be in the situation today..

Thanks, i wonder how Turkey grew to become so powerful military wise. I wouldnt be surprised if it regained it's Ottoman era influence in Europe and once again begins to rival Russia in the region in 20 years time.
