Somcable, in Collaboration with Alepo and Airspan, Announces the Commercial Launch of LTE Network in Somaliland
Somcable expands its 4G LTE agreement with Alepo to include a policy control solution that will enable network monetization immediately upon launch.
Tuesday, January 5, 2016, Austin, TX – Alepo, http://www.alepo.com, a leading provider of network and IT software solutions for global communications service providers, announced today that Somcable, a major communications service provider in East Africa, has officially gone live with LTE in Somaliland. Alepo completed this LTE project in collaboration with Airspan.
Somcable has deployed the LTE-Advanced network alongside a fiber optic network (GPON), which will enable Somcable to offer high-speed, fixed and mobile broadband services to commercial and residential customers. Alepo has provided a convergent online charging and billing platform (Alepo OCS, Alepo Service Enabler) to support the most sophisticated and flexible data plans for both LTE and fiber services.
“Somcable is dedicated to improving the lives of the citizens of Somaliland with the most robust and innovative telecommunications services,” said Abdourahman Mohamed, CEO of Somcable. “A combined LTE-Advanced solution from Alepo and Airspan gives us the foundation we need to expand our services into new mobile broadband markets and technologies in ways that connect and empower our region.”
More recently, Somcable entered into an agreement with Alepo to include a policy control solution that has enabled LTE network monetization immediately upon launch. With Alepo PCRF Somcable is generating additional revenues by creating subscription plans that are tailored to low income internet users (unemployed persons and students), households consisting of adults, professional independent business people, local NGO’s and small businesses such as travel agencies.
Thanks to the partnership between Alepo and Airspan, Somcable will enjoy a proven, end-to-end 4G LTE solution that supports current business needs and future services as they evolve. The pre-integrated solution also affords Somcable a rapid time to market while maintaining a low total cost of ownership.
“A joint 4G LTE-Advanced solution from Airspan and Alepo is on the cutting edge of the rapidly growing LTE marketplace,” stated Henrik Smith-Petersen, President Global Sales of Airspan Networks. “In partnering with Alepo, we can present providers with a complete solution with the power and agility to define the marketplace.”
“Alepo is proud to showcase the power of a joint 4G solution with Airspan,” said Dan Stern, Vice President of Sales at Alepo. “Our platform is perfectly suited to Somcable’s rapidly growing and diversifying network. As Somcable’s network advances, we are confident that our future-proof solution will help them to continue to deliver a breadth and quality of services unmatched in the marketplace.”

Somcable is a wholesaler.

Telesom and the likes buy it from them who in turn break it down and sell it to the public.
