Biometric authentication and identity assurance solutions firm Daon has revealed that their software and expertise has played an integral role in providing biometric voter registration capabilities to the National Election Commission in Somaliland through Interpeace, an international peacebuilding organization.

Daon’s identity management software suite includes biometric voter registration and centralized voter management modules.

Daon worked in partnership with ATEA – an IT Infrastructure provider selected by Interpeace - for the project to design, assemble and deliver the voter registration kits with iris capture and matching functionality using IrisID for the Iris acquisition cameras and recognition technology.

The firm;s biometric registration software provides significant advantages to the National Electoral Commission due to its maturity, including comprehensive multimodal biometric client and server capabilities, noted Daon in a press statement.

Utilizing fast matching algorithms for local registrants, and further deduplication at central level, Daon will ensure the provisional and final voter lists are clean in support of a free and fair election process due to be held in 2017.

The National Electoral Commission worked closely with the chosen contractor ATEA, and particularly with Daon on the voter registration system functionality, to ensure they could easily train their operators on the biometric voter registration kits and central voter registry management system in order to roll out a national elections registration program successfully.”

Daon Tech Supports Peacebuilding Work in Somaliland

Daon is helping to develop a biometric voting system in Somaliland, the company has announced.

It’s a project organized by Interpeace, aUnited Nations-affiliated NGO that works to build peace in war-torn states. Daon has been selected to provide the key software technology to ATEA, an IT company that Interpeace has contracted for the project.

Daon’s technology will play an important role in the Somaliland Biometric Voter Registration program, which aims to establish a registry of biometric data that can be used to authenticate voters for polling in future elections. Daon specializes in biometric identity solutions, having developed products like its IdentityX platform; and it also has experience in high-profile government projects in the areas of border control and airport security screening, where fast and accurate identification is critical. Thus it’s well-suited to the Somaliland project.
