We need water conservation schemes conducted in all of the Somali territories.

Wa ka xumahay dhibatada dadkan iyo xoolahaba.

Anigu waxna cid uma gaysan. Dowlada ET maha wa qadar Alle lakin future plans to dam it wa socdan.

Marki tas mesha timadana, both rivers will either dry up or see 70% decrease in water.

Hadi Konfuur sexatay iyaga iskugu wacaan.

I'm just aware of the region. Its vulnerabilities, ongoing projects, unresolved issues, etc, all that will have social, economical and political impact.

Ethio will soon start two irrigation dams on Shabelle and Jubba especially Jubba one will impact southern Somalia far more because the dam is bigger and its in higher altitude.

That coupled with el Nino could dry the river for good (el Nino is now reoccurring).

In an el Nino phenomenon, theoretically speaking the Somali lowlands were to recieve higher rainfall than Ethiopian/Oromo highlands, which are the sources of both rivers.

The reason Somali lowlands were to receive more rainfall than Ethiopian highlands is due to evaporation. When there is less evaporation then it means less clouds reaching the higher altitudes basically wa sida gadhi dalcad fulaya.

For ET then its necessary to dam the rivers at lowerlands meaning dhulka deganka Somalida bay isku fidiinayan.

If Oromo highland see low rainfall like last year (2015), where rainfall was 75% less than typical fall in some areas then that means the likes of Shabelle will see 75% less water.

Here is Ethiopian rainfall data for 2015

This happens once in every 30 years and we r now in jiilaal, next month(abril)the GU season starts watch out the floods

Ethiopia until now has reservoir canals in goday just like jowhar but this doesn't affect the river, it's bc of the jiilaal.

As you can see from the map above (posted), Somali lowland zones; Qorahey, Godey and Degehbur received decent rainfall while areas closer to the highlands struggled such as Shinile, parts of Wardheer, Fiq, jigjiga and central Liban.

SL weather seems to be linked to what happens to northern Ethiopian highlands while south Somalia should have seen more rainfall like Godey.

Somalis need to monitor what happens in Australia. If there is drought here, Somalia will see it too.

Follow Australian early warning system.

Somalis should set up weather station.

BARAWE, Somalia-Hunger has claimed at killed an expectant mother in Lower Shabelle region of southern Somalia as drought continues to unleash severe water shortage, officials said on Sunday.

Deputy Lower Shabelle Governor Ali Nur Mohamed told VOA Somali Service that the pregnant mother died in Ambaressa village, some kilometers off former Al Shabaab stronghold, Barawe coastal town.

At least 30 other families are said to be at risk for similar fate if early action intervention is not taken.

Mohamed added that Shabelle River has completely dried up due to the El Nino induced drought in many parts of the country.

He called on Somalia Federal Government to dispatch aid to drought-stricken regions in southern Somalia.

The death marks the first in Somalia’s ravaging drought.
