What made the Ajuuraan so successful at governing? (1200s - late 17th century)

These are some of the impressive things Ajuran accomplished when they were ruling.
  • - Economic powerhouse
    - Most ships in the Muslim world
    - Made Mogadishu one of the richest cities in the world
    - Mapped the Indian Ocean monsoon to establish direct trade with China
    - Had the strongest navy in Africa and probably the entire Muslim world after the Ottomans (15th-16th Century)
    - Probably had the strongest military after the Ottomans in the Muslim world (15th Century)
    - First Africans to establish communities in China
    - Had settlement and colonies in Soqotra, Sofala, Madagascar, Maldives and many Indian ocean Islands before the Portuguese.
    - successfully resisted all outside threat
    - Maintain a government for 400+ years
e.t.c

Also, It was the most prosperous East African nation! no other country in East Africa has come close to it's prestige yet. if you were to look at the economy of the world in the 14th-16th century Ajuran would be very high up. Up there with the big guys like Venice, Ottomans, Ming China, Timurids-Safavids etc. Ajuran would definitely be the highest in African economies at that time maybe second to only the Mali economy.

What made them so successful? Did they use a specific type of governments or what? What about their economic policies? Tax policies? Diplomatic relations? are there books written about this country?

Damn those dudes were good at ruling.
