Re: The story of the Somalia flag, the myth and the reality.
Partially true. The flag was designed under the United Nations, which ruled Somalia (the south) after it was placed under UN-trusteeship following the defeat of Italy in WW II by the Allies.
The flag was not for "Somali Republic" but rather Somaliland. The British already declared Somaliland was to be granted independence in 1960 like many other African countries so preparation was to start.
But Somalia was to gain independence 10 years after Somaliland, which would put her in the 1970s like Djibouti (1977).
That's how "Maandeeq" was born and Maandeeq represented freedom for all Somali nomads whether under UN in the south, Kenya in NFD, French or the Abyssinian Empire.
The "Somali Republic" name was not even coined and the flag pre-dates such name.
The question is though why did Somaliland endorse a stupid UN flag with purported 'five Somalis' star? SL had no history with UN and such flag made no sense.
We are to be blamed my nigga. We saw blue UN flag and just took it to Freedom park without asking WTF it was.
Who designed it is irrelevant. It was Konfuur nigga since UN made sense to him and his people.

To my knowledge the flag is originally from somaliland. I heard we took it to them and told them "kan na siib kan na Saar"

Re: The story of the Somalia flag, the myth and the reality.
When the British began preparing SL to govern itself, the local leaders put the word out and requested the design of a flag, national anthem and called for various competitions.
In the song competition Abdullahi Suldaan Tima Adde was one of the many participants. He composed "Kana siib kana sar" before 1960 but would unveil that on the occasion.
During that competition he actually came second and until now the majority of Landers do not know the name of the winner.
The national anthem went to Abdillahi Qarshe and again not many Landers know that. He composed the national anthem in 1959 and he already seen the SL flag, which was designed by Wanlawein man (the UN flag with the white star).
He says:
He wrote that 1959 and added the music same year in preparation for SL.
That was actually the SL national anthem.
When the two merged SL took the flag, anthem, parliament, military (Somaliland camel corps) and the SL camel corps logo to the south. Mogadishu was a decent town thanks to the Italians where as Hargeisa was a small village really. So it was more appropriate to make Mogadishu the capital.
I too don't care about the UN flag but it's good to learn history.

That picture was taken 12 oktober 1954. that day was the day the blue flag was rised in mogadishu.. The interim goverment lead by prime minister Abdulaahi ciise was leading the country. and yes Koonfurian flag(the blue flag) was rised hargeysa 26 june 1960 the birth of somali republic.. waqooyilanders had nothing to do whit liberation and unification of somalia or Somali republic.. SYL was the father of unification and it was koonfurian invention..
qaldaaamiins argue that they were new nation 26 june 1960. if thats true then why dont you hade your own flag ???... every country which was unified had their own flags.. ZANZANIBAR AND TANGANIKA unified each had their own flag.. south yemen and north yemen each had their own flag.. but north somalia 26 june 1960 hargeysa was rised a flag from mogadishu. the interim flag of Somalia .

Re: The story of the Somalia flag, the myth and the reality.
No the flag was designed by the Italian fascist government when Italy conquered Ethiopia and united tow regions of the Somalis. The Italian called their tow colonies " Grande Somalia" or Greater Somalia/Soomaaliweyn. The flag was designed for Greater Somalia by the Italians and preceded the alleged Kuumbo designer by some 20 years. Its in the Italian archives and I have the entire story of the flag.
This Cawaale Liibaan is an imposter , he just implemented the Grande Somalia flag of the Italians for the new republic.

Markay SNM may 88 kii burco iyo Hargeisa seefta la dhex qaadaysay faqash ta adigu dameer kaaga futadiisa aayaad jawaan dabo siday Si aad u fuliso amarkii ahaa inaanu dameerka abgaal dariiqyada Ku xaari Karin. There was no other rebels any where else the Somali republic. SNM was the mastermind behind USC creation. It's true without caydiid we could not easily defeat afweyne in the north. That's whole reason we recruited Hawiye .DR-YALAXOOW wrote:siyaad bare AUN anigaa riday.. adiga xarshin harta sheekh ayaad qaxooti ku aheeyd . xitaa siyaad bare oo dhacay 26 janaayo 1991. hargeysa burco berbera waad qabsan waysay.. 3 maalmood ka dib markii uu qabiil waliba magaaladisii ku laabtay ayaad hargeysa burco berbera tagtay.. ha ku faanin siyaad bare laad ku dhuftay.. siyaad bare waa ku eryaday..

SNM entred hargeysa burco and berbera.. that was biggest shame of all time.... SNM was most failed jabhad in Somalia... SSDF WAS MUCH BETTER. they captured goldogob and balanbale while siyaad bare was in power,,,..

Walaahi, I feel sorry for Yalaxow. Dr yalaxow has been so abused on here he hates Idoor more than he hates Iblis. This abgaal donkey is willing to give credit to his dhaboyaco masters before the people who freed his hutus ass.
Isaaq took on the might of the SNA on multiple fronts with many enemy clans surrounding them from Ciise and Samaroon to Midgaan and fiqishini. This while your donkey ass was still in chains crying "Give us free!".
