Somaliland refused to bend over for them when they demanded us to close the Nile Academy schools. They tried to bargain with us by saying that they will accept SL passport as a valid entry document into Turkey also by asking TIKA to carry out additional projects in Somaliland.

But, thank goodness. Somaliland government never budged about her decision to not close the schools.

For once, we have grown a backbone and put principles before short term gains.

Next, we need to call quits on Turkey hosting mediation efforts between Somaliland and Somalia. It is turning out to become another Palestinian Israel never ending sideshow "Peace Process".

I am against Somaliland getting recognised until we get our shit together. Corruption, tribalism and khat MUST be rooted out and the bleak economic reality that ordinary Somailanders face needs to change.

Nations are not recognised if their politicians shamelessly beg other nations, especially those who harbour ill-intentions (Britain, US...etc).

Recognition comes when there is a collective struggle of unrelenting hard-work, pure dedication and a fiery determination to build infrastructure, improve health-care and also combat corruption.

Until Somalilanders realise this, they will not be recognised. This actually better for us. Otherwise, the IMF will have a field-day on our politicians.

As for what you said, the older generation of Landers are useless. The current political elite are composed of either old fashioned and thoroughly corrupt Kacaan-era bureaucrats or ill-educated elders who gained power through tribalism. However, the current generation is full of university graduates and people who are willing to go that extra mile in developing their nation.
