1977 a year of strong emotions
Today I was speaking with my parents about 1977 a somali military officer a reer Sool guy calleed Maxamoud salaax a close friend of the family who used to eat in our home every day blow him self up as a sucide bomber in Godey inside the Ethiopian military weapon department .Nobody gave him a order to do it there was no offical somali policy to do such things, naturally the news of his death came as huge shock to my family..... AUN in those months of 1977 somalis from Somalia really though life was worthless as long as Somali Galbeed was not free. In downtown Mogadishu civilians was begging to get a gun to joint the front in other towns people was standing in lines to donate blood to the troops all kinds of nationalistic songs was played in the radio even our jailed thugs demanded to get out of the prisons and join the front. When the news that Jigigiga had been liberated had reached Mogadishu there was parties all over the place people was crying flags everywhere it was a fanatical feeling nationalism was everything ....... and then the russians joined the war and the rest is history. But in those months the average somali was ready to give everthing up for a free Somali Galbeed.

Orphan, yes we lost the war but we never lost the fight. It was the right decision to invade Ethiopia and it was the right time . Kudos to afweyne for his bravery leadership, the only mistake he did during the preparation was expelling the Russians and not creating any reliable alternative allies, if only the kacaan were good politicians we could successfully reach our goal .

Sxb in those days the vast majority of Somali were very naive and gullible xoolo dhaqato, who were led to believe that everything bad and awfull in their lives ( like lack of adequate infrastructures, skills and resources such as medicine, machinery for farming and other industries), including the infamous famine aka Abaartii Dhabodheer were perpetrated and solicited by the big bad Habash hyenas, (even for lack of rain they blamed on their neighbour). The Somalis of this era swallowed everything the suicidal Regime and its propaganda networks spewed about the countries neighbours. The regime used the territorial and border disputes to divert the attention of then naive and gullible citizens away from its short comings i.e. dictatorship, corruption, nepotism, lack of accountability and achievable economic and agricultural policies etc etc... And when the regime saw that the population and many of its politicians military and business leaders were asking questions about its leadership and policies, had found and thought that the land disputes with Ethiopia and 1977 presented a perfect opportunity to divert attention away from and quell and bury potential uprisings and troubles arising from its domestic and economic politicies, had sent potential trouble makers within the military and its administration to war with the disguise of Somalinimo. What a fruitless and disastrous actions it proved to be!!!
OP, there was nothing Somali nationalism about 1977, it was all about a dying regime's throw of a dice in order to stay in power and holding the Somali Republic's future at ransom (which was paid with the state of Somalis in last 26 or more years).

Re: 1977 a year of strong emotions
Bullshit your entire text the country was doing good before 77 and the entire system was united behind the leadership in fact the 77 war destroyed the loyal base of the government and the nation turned bitter resulting in tribalism after the defeat of the war and the Kacaan loosing its most important ally the ussr. All the development happend in the early 70s. The written af somalii our university our hospitals roads ports all build by the 70s kacaan policy no need for scapegoats we were doing goodLoDoon wrote:smartyt wrote:Today I was speaking with my parents about 1977 a somali military officer a reer Sool guy calleed Maxamoud salaax a close friend of the family who used to eat in our home every day blow him self up as a sucide bomber in Godey inside the Ethiopian military weapon department .Nobody gave him a order to do it there was no offical somali policy to do such things, naturally the news of his death came as huge shock to my family..... Said Barre never really wanted to win. He undermined his generals and purged all his opponents in the military during this war. Still, that didn't stop us from smashing the Ethiopian military to near extinction.
AUN to all the brave men and women that died in this war.
I guarantee you, every Somali in this site probably at least had a dozen relatives fighting in this war.

Phuk off you filth habashi, we never lost one single fight against the habashis. harar and jigjiga was not a piece of cake for us . The most difficult fight was in godey, which we won with a lot of casualties. Afterluis1 wrote:Theyusuf143:
