The Horn of African people are originally from northern Egypt and in pursuit of better pasture (due to climate change) they moved down along the Nile pushing Nilotic groups down too.

Southern Egypt or Nubia was none other than the Dinka, Nuer, Sumburu, Masai...

After that we moved to present day northern Ethiopia but separated after some of them embraced Christianity.

Those who would later become Somalis moved east to what is Djibouti now.

The Axumite empire took in many foreigners including Arabs who brought with them new script, language, religion and left their DNA traces.

Centuries later another wave of Arabs came but this time with a new religion (Islam) and likewise few who settled amongst the Somalis left behind traces of DNA, script, loan words, and stories including bid to "Arabnize" the locals. The objective was neither ethnic or race but back then being Arab meant being Muslim.

That's how we tried to holiness our ancestors and thus inventory "reer Sh X". Those who were not were considered impure and not Muslims eg Midgaan, Yibir, etc.
