Let's all put our hands together for Ilhan Omar. Let us tell her that we're rooting for her. She is the first Somali lawmaker in the United States of America, which is an amazing achievement. It is a great achievement for Somali women also, that they are twice now the first Somali lawmakers in two Western countries where there are significant diaspora communities. She is also a charming woman, who is well spoken and clearly hard working.

It is people like Ilhan who will give Somali Americans a visible stake in the American society. Once again, kudos and good luck to her. Inshallah she will succeed in public office.
