I don't believe in the conspiracy theory that the west is keeping Somalia divided, there's no "cui bono", there's no benefit. Divided Somalia means piracy on western shipping, safe haven for anti-western militia groups and attacks on western interests in Kenya, Somalia and Uganda.

The "cui bono" for the west is a stable Somalia where they can peacefully exploit Somalia's oil, gas and natural resources. The Shabaab funded by the west theory doesn't make any sense. That's not to say that dividing other countries for strategic interests isn't caused by the west (Iraq for instance) but unified Somalia isn't really a threat to the west the way an Iranian controlled Iraq is, more of a business opportunity.
