''When the Yemeni ambassador visited Gondar in 1648, he was greatly impressed by the Oromo as a powerful people. He reported to his king in Yemen that ''They are exerting pressure on the Christians of AL-Habasha from all sides and borders of their territory, none of these regions being devoid of them.'' His report is an indication that, by the 2nd half of the 17th century, the Oromo had consolidated themselves, and there were few Pan-Oromo operations against Emperor Fasiladas. In addition, the Oromo strategy of engaging the Ethiopian Army north of the Abbay River reduced expeditions to the south of the river. Their fatherland, Oromia, had been defended well.''

Re: A Yemeni ambassador who visited Abyssinia in the 17th century said the Oromos were powerful
It is said that in mid 00s years, The Former Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi had said (rough quote ) 'that three things boggles the mind and keeps me awake and relates to the budgets of three states... 1. the Somali regional state, where nobody knows where or what it spends and where the money went and even when we looked into the pockets/accounts of its leaders nothing was found infact they we found them poor living in less than modest houses and needing more assistance themselves and so we increase and double the state's budget for projects and to help with salaries and wages of officials . 2. In The Oromiya state we have identified and accounted for how where and what their allocated budget is distributed and spend but every year before the even half of the budgeting year had ended they come to me with new figures showing that their population had doubled so we have had increase the budget and nobody knows or is able to figure out where these increases in population come from.....3. The third state that keeps me awake at night is the Amhara regional state because when we examined their spending we discovered that nearly half of their budget is spend on their Department of information and Media and when looked into the department's activities we found that it had similar equipment and same activities as others but more active and produced more literature but nobody knows what information they publish and broadcast that is worth so much and that other public services had to be sacrificed for....."Waachis wrote: Sat Jun 17, 2017 10:40 pm ''When the Yemeni ambassador visited Gondar in 1648, he was greatly impressed by the Oromo as a powerful people. The point to this story is that the Amhara have worked so hard for centuries to the present day and understood the importance of public relations information i. e. Propaganda with the aim of telling and showing outsiders non Ethiopians and to some extent Ethiopians but non Amharas, made up history and stolen history legacies (mainly at the expense of The Oromo ) and passing spreading other nations' histories as their own in order to claim the sovereignty rights and superiority over all other inhabiting nation in Ethiopia. Without this PR /propaganda and fake histories they would have just been just another fish in the Ethiopia ocean.
And this why the Amharas have dominated Ethiopia for so long where as the Oromo, who I believe to possessed more richer history than any other ethnic group in Ethiopia and has shaped and influenced Ethiopia more than any other, never put much effort into understanding the importance of public information and PR. As a result of which they have become to be perceived negatively and misunderstood by other Horn African nations and others.
But I now see that The Alaqa Waachis is providing trying to change this by doing his bit in the struggle of putting the Oromo back to where it belonged and spreading getting the true Oromo history and legacy become known by those that were lied to with a bite size lessons.
