Remembering the Father of the Somali Airforce, Ali Matan Hashi

Post by Voltage »

Cali Mataan Xaashi is known as the first Somali to fly a plane and was the leader of the first 5 group of pilots sent from the Somali peninsula to be trained as pilots.

He was also the first Commander of the Somali Airforce from 1960 to 1973 and one of the top members of the 1969 Coup.

He was Marehan/rer Diini/reer Nuur.

Professor Mohamed Haji Mukhtar (Digil and Mirifle) has a small description of him in his book, Historical Dictionary of Somalia. Prof Mukhtar is the father of the current Deputy Governor of Mogadishu, Subayda Mukhtar. He is a professor of African History in the US.

From Aydiid's book about Siad Barre on the night of the coup
"Working with him were Lieutenant Colonel Ali Malan Hasii and two other officers of Siad Barre's own Marehan tribe.

Besides this, he chose three intellectuals of his tribe, who were secretly working for him in evolving the political system and the future policy. They were spreading his ideas. The chief among them was a well-known named Mohammed Aden who had received his education in Italy and obtained a Doctorate of Pediatrics (Medicine)."

Somali Air Force was in shambles in 1991.

A sad spectacle for a glorious Force.

You are right Luis. In the future, many Ali Matans will rise to build up our forces again.

In before a certain self - proclaimed Skinny historian comes in and debunks these purported historical facts as nothing but the figment imagination of a qabiil-driven dictator bent on glorifying the accomplishments of his own clan.

How old are you? Whose parents do not know Ali Mataan as AIr Force chief? That just would say more about their background than anything; very backward, rural, and out of touch with their country at that time.

It's like not knowing Robert Kennedy was Attorney General in the sixties if you lived in the US. If you didn't know, but were alive at that time in the US you must have been in some information deprived cult in rural Montana.
