More proof that the Somalis are an Oromo off-shoot
''The next great branch of the Ethiopic race comprehends the Oromo, who occupy an immense tract in Eastern Africa, from Abyssinia as far as the inland Portuguese possessions in Mozambique, to the south of the equator. An interesting tribe of the Oromo are the Somalis, who have lately been brought to the knowledge of Europeans, a widely scattered nation, who lead a pastoral life on the uplands, and also nearer to the coast of the Indian Ocean from Cape Jerdaffur southward to a considerable distance.. They seem to be of a mild and peaceful disposition, while the other Oromo tribes are a warlike race.''

what happened to "warlike race"?
Oromos and Somalis are just Cushitic together also the Afars. So who is Oromo's ancestor?

Re: Do Oromo people really Come from Madagascar?
Nebro: I am not sure about the Madagascar story, but I know for sure that most the places they claim as theirs today were places taken by force and genocide from other ancient Smaller ethnic groups of Ethiopia. Arusi and bale were no doubt the lands of hadya. Wellega used to be Damot. Shewa oromos took the lands of ancient ppl like weleka, gurage, werjies, Maya and Amhara. Place names like shimbrra kure. are now replaced by oromo names like bishoftu. Bets Amhara and Angot is now given an oromo name called wello. If there is love, this is nothing but human history but with the kind of hate politics in Ethiopia today this is a good recipe to start war among the next generation. All we need is love.

Re: More proof that the Somalis are an Oromo off-shoot
How can we copy our sons and daughters? Makes no sense. Darods came to us, when they were weak numerically, the generous Oromos said ''welcome, our sons, feel free to graze your livestock on the oromo grasslands, what is ours, is yours...''Lion104 wrote: Fri Jul 21, 2017 12:37 pmBorana Oromos copying Somali culture and clothing.Waachis wrote: Thu Jul 20, 2017 2:29 pm ''The next great branch of the Ethiopic race comprehends the Oromo, who occupy an immense tract in Eastern Africa, from Abyssinia as far as the inland Portuguese possessions in Mozambique, to the south of the equator. You need to stop hanging around Extremist-Amhara-Unionists. They're the same ones who believe the Ogaden is Ethiopian, more Ethiopian than Somali, and says that Somalis there should speak Amharic first! If you take them as your historical source, you're as retarded as they are!paperino wrote: Fri Jul 21, 2017 7:15 am Re: Do Oromo people really Come from Madagascar?

The Oromo conquered lands just everyone else did. We just did it better than most, so our neighbors envy us, with their evil-buda-eyes.

Re: More proof that the Somalis are an Oromo off-shoot
The Oromo aren't indigenous to the lands they've conquered. If they're forcefully driven out of those lands, it would be fair.Waachis wrote: Fri Jul 21, 2017 3:19 pm The Oromo conquered lands just everyone else did. They've been there for 100s of years, BEFORE ETHIOPIA EXISTED. If you wanna go with that logic, the somalis are newcomers to NFD, Ogaden (oromos occupied the ogaden about 500 years ago and after a smallpox epidemic almost wiped out the oromos there, the darood somalis took it).
Re: More proof that the Somalis are an Oromo off-shoot
Having been there for 100s of years doesn't make it right; they took it by force, massacred the indigenous, caused unimaginable traumas, etc. Above all, the Oromo never apologized for what they did. So, if the same happens to the Oromo, it would be fair.Waachis wrote: Fri Jul 21, 2017 9:24 pm You sound like an Amhara-extremist-unionist.

Re: More proof that the Somalis are an Oromo off-shoot
That's not a proof just a statement. People need to stop using Western bloggers and their diary entries as "proof" and "holy testimony".
The people who done their work are the anthropologists and I agree with them. Oromo are Cushitic like the Somalis and in siblings there is no such thing as 'off-shot'.
First educate yourself Waachis and stop making holding white travellers and their diary stories so highly.
Study the proper history.
No wonder everyone keeps giving you hard time.
And Oromo is as indigenous to the Horn as the rest of the Cushitic family thus ignore trolls.
As for the guntino dress---it's not that Somali. It was introduced to the Banadir regions in the late 1800s by Arab/Indian/Barawaani traders.
It eventually made its way to the rest of the region including the Borana.
Just because a Somali imported an iPhone before an Oromo----doesn't make the iPhone more Somali than Oromo.
The real Somali clothe was white cotton sheet which itself was made in India. India was long the largest cotton producers and that's how the British got there after the cotton.
After the industrial age, the cotton expanded and it made to places like the Somali coast.
Here are the Saho, also Cushitic, wearing similar clothes.

Saho and Somalis have no contacts so can't say they copied. Just another clothe making its way to other Cushitics. Oromo in Wollo and Afar wear similar too.
Basic knowledge. The first rule in knowledge is freeing your mind from being biased and presenting things 'we, my, our'.
Nagaati.

Who said I believe this quote with 100% certainty?
Who's to say, I didn't post it, seeking to get some people emotional/angry/baffled/etc, as you did when you responded?
LOOOOL.
I just find the white mans observations to be funny and Oromos themselves consider Somalis to be their sons/daughters/etc, as well, not saying it's 100% true, but POSSIBLE.
just because YOU don't believe it, doesn't make it not true.
Re: More proof that the Somalis are an Oromo off-shoot
so should we all go back to our original homelands, or JUST THE OROMOS (aka you're a hypocrite/adhering to double-standards)?paperino wrote: Fri Jul 21, 2017 9:38 pmHaving been there for 100s of years doesn't make it right; they took it by force, massacred the indigenous, caused unimaginable traumas, etc. Above all, the Oromo never apologized for what they did. IF SO, the habasha must cross over back to yemen, the somali must give up NFD, OGADEN, etc, and move back to the extreme northern part of somali-land which is supposedly their homeland, and so on....
will the somalis apologize then, for giving the world al shabab and more refugees/more insecurity in their seas/and for the terror attacks somali individuals committed? will somalis apologize for forcing ethiopians and others to die for your freedom since you cannot do it yourself?
etc....

Re: More proof that the Somalis are an Oromo off-shoot
Waachis,
I just can't comprehend your logic. What makes Oromo the parent and Somali the child? Why can't Somali be the parent? Why can't they be siblings?
I believe you think Oromo is parent only because Oromo pose much larger population. Your logic is bigger population = parent.
Very laughable.
Have you seen the population of Brazil and that of Portugal? United States and England?
Think next time.

Re: More proof that the Somalis are an Oromo off-shoot
You've here a Bandwagon Fallacy. The discussion is about the Oromo, not the habasha, refugees, insecurity, terror attacks, ethiopians dying for the "freedom" of Somalis, etc. And unlike the Oromo, al shabab didn't conquer foreign lands.Waachis wrote: Fri Jul 21, 2017 10:27 pm so should we all go back to our original homelands, or JUST THE OROMOS (aka you're a hypocrite/adhering to double-standards)?
