Should Syria , with the help of Russia defend itself it would be a very ugly situation. Turkey is a NATO member and NATO is a defensive pact, meaning if Turkey was attacked it would trigger Article 5 and other NATO members would have to come to Turkeys defense, but since Turkey invaded first Article 5 NATO doesn't matter since Turkey is on the offensive, not the defensive.

Turkey is attacking the Kurds who did most of the work clearing out ISIS. Remember Turkey famously kept open borders with Syria in exchange for cheap oil from ISIS. After the coast was clear Turkey is attempting to get revenge for their fallen ISIS brothers

The Kurds were supported by America , so Turkey is attacking their NATO allies backed force, the Kurds. This is also something important to remember if Turkey were to come looking for help from NATO, Turkey attacked the NATO backed rebels...

Also if Trump turns his back on the Kurds the U.S. will never again get any regional help in the middle east from groups . It's a damned if you , damned if you don't situation.

It's also important to remember that Trump is a puppet of Russia, so if Russia wants Turkey out of Syria they will do it militarily while getting assurance from Trump that he won't intervene on anyone's behalf

Turkey might get kicked out of NATO. Erdogan has been increasingly going off the rails as he consolidates more power in Turkey. The guy even did fake coup in Turkey couple years ago just to steal more power ...
