State & Federal Government Talks Have Failed! What's Next For Somalia?

Post by knet »

This first meeting ends with no joint communique since President Farmajo came into power in early 2017. Political analyst describes the collapse of the latest round of talks as a "missed opportunity"

The two sides began the consultative forum on 5th may to seek a lasting solution or at least to narrow their differences on petroleum act, electoral bill, and constitutional review and other focal points. The Conference brought together the regional presidents: Said Abdullahi Deni (Puntland), Ahmed Duale Gelle (Galmudug), Mohamed Abdi Ware (hirshabelle), Mohamed Hassan Lafete-Gareen (South Weststate) and Ahmed Madobe (Jubaland), President Farmajo and PM Hassan Ali Khaire.

According to the sources, the Federal States demanded a reversal of petroleum and election passed by the cabinet and sent to the parliament until an inclusive political deal is reached.

The Federal Government of Somalia has been pushed during the lengthy conference to have the controversial bills reviewed to factor in the views of the Federal states noting they were not consulted throughout the process.
In a statement, Galmudug State president expressed "regret" over the collapse of the talks, blaming the Federal Government for deviating from the Agenda.

More like the collapse of the Xamar Administration.
The states will move forward soon to all declare independence. Somalis has finally been killed none other by a Marehan langan once again. Sleep on that.

Somalis in Somalia of today are 70% youth and social media oriented and support N&N. Sleep well on that. You're fighting a war you don't even understand anymore. That's why you lost to me the first time in 1969. I know what drives the masses. Majeerteens were always elitist oligarchs.

Time for the federal government to grow a pair
And get these regional governors in check.

The first step is to have these regional governors pay their federal MPs salaries and costs. Xamar should not be funding them.

Second step, time for Farmaajo to be more vocal and make his case to the public. The vast majority of the common folk in these regional states yearn for centralization and are fed up of these governors.

Thirdly, reward KG for their loyalty. Show what cooperation brings. More direct aid to KG.

This is an issue bigger than Farmaajo or Kheyre. We can either be a nation with a central authority or continue to be a series of vassal states. Any victories for centralization will benefit those who succeed Farmaajo

I agree.

Especially they need to take out weak ones and give them better deals.

The stubborn ones should face isolations and IC should send assistance only via Federal charter.

No petrol should be explored without federal signature and international firms should face tough legal actions including money laundering, funding terrorist and destabilising elements who directly or indirectly contribute to terror groups.

This will be the straw that broke the camel's back for the IC to finally deal directly with the States wich will make this Govt a non existant and the possibility of Xamar electing its mayor who will join the states(notice how madobe and daani support this wich will make it unanimous). Than this govt will be done even in Xamar. IC will be having a meeting on Somalia tomorrow. Farmaajo has lost another chance to make reconciliation. I heard kheyre was there "si aan loo xaman" specially states encouraging their federal mps if the PM has to be changed and keeping the status quo will benefit Kheyre. Let's us wait for the IC to make save Somalia before the HAG conference after ramadan.

The international community will use this an excuse to permenantly rule Somalia, using state vessels like Ethiopia and Kenya.

Thanks to farmaajo's failure, and lack of foresight/leadership, Somalia will become an IC colony now.

Abdiwahab & Aw rastaale

It's either The Federal states should runs this country Or let SFG to run somalia.

Too many federal mps, SFG mps, SFG Senators, + no ones knows exactly what their job is.

We should also replace our parliamentary system to presidential political system.

Even if farmaajo leaves - the next president will will still be hostage to Federal states.

let population to vote and choose - we can't leave this mess to ours kids to sort it out later.
