Those armed men appear to be a militia force more than a disciplined modern force. As a result, they're more likely to hurt Deni/Madoobe, their planes, escape routes, etc in the event something goes awry (like getting too emotional & trigger happy). 90% of protecting such leaders is about intelligence, which both Deni/Madoobe lack. Militiamen like these are meant for scaring civilians, and are the least efficient when it comes to fighting:
