The next one is a big one.
It is from 1931...
...and it is the earliest academic Reference yet put into the record on this subject from the single most respected academic research document ever penned on Ethiopian historiagraphy.
Cerulli traveled to HARAR and wrote this article entirely based on what he learned and found out in Harar.

Is he the forefather of the Ina Nuur clan or do the times not match?

I am not sure I understand the question wallahi. I just imagine you are alluding to an inconsistency which I can't see. Clarify?

I wasn't alluding to anything. I was just wondering if he was the progenitor of Ina Nuur subclan or not.Gubbet wrote: Sun Apr 25, 2021 5:15 pm I am not sure I understand the question wallahi. I just imagine you are alluding to an inconsistency which I can't see. Clarify?
Re: 1971: #1 French historian on Ethiopia Jean D: Emir Nur of "Marrehan Group"
No he is after progenitor that is why he is Ina Nur and not Reer Nur
In the entire Somali tribal nomenclature, the sub-clan of Ina Nur is odd for being the only occurrence of this nomenclature INA.
NUR (the Emir) Ali Abdullahi NUR (Ina Nur clan) Yusuf Matan
The break is at Yusuf Mataan with a major cleavage in the tree being Hussein Yusuf Mataan remember, so all from the line Nuur Yusuf Mataan are the clan ina Nuur opposite to all Hussein Yusuf.
Rer Garaad represents this dynamic as well because reer Garaad although identified to Garaad Hiraabe has him as descendent and not progenitor to the clan
[Garad] Hiraabe son of [Garad] Ali son of [Garad] Adan son of Mataan Ciis
Reer Garaad begins at Adan Mataan because there is a break there at Mataan Ciis with the major cleavage provided by Yusuf Mataan, so all the other lines after Mataan Ciis start opposite to Yusuf Mataan
So clans diverge at major cleavage points (yaa kala baxay) and the break in the line is the father of the big cleavage point
Like Hussein Yusuf providing big cleavage (farac) which made everything that would come down the other lines of Yusuf Mataan begin opposite to him as Hussein Yusuf making his father Yusuf Mataan a big breakpoint hence also Nur Yusuf begins ina Nuur
So too did Yusuf Mataan (being made so big by Hussein Yusuf) end up as a major cleavage that made his dad Mataan Ciis a big break point which meant everything that came after Mataan Ciis lines had to have a clan name starting there opposite to Yusuf Mataan hence Adan Mataan begins rer Garaad
Does that make sense?
Major Cleavage ----- A man has a HUGE family
Break Point: Everything that comes from the siblings of that man with the huge family has to start identification at where they separated aka at the father of the man with the big family
It is sometimes odd like for Ina Nuur because where the reer became a distinguiable or mememorable in the tree is sometimes not controlled by them as in this case
So the clan of Ina Nuur which is really describing the reer that descended from Amiir Nuur is subscribed to where that reer differentiated (the "break") from the nearest major qolo ("cleavage" )
Where they differentiated is at Yusuf Mataan so the clan that reer begins at Nuur Yusuf and not Nur Ali but because of how important Nuur Ali was the clan was named Ina Nuur (identifying Nur Ali himself as Ina Nur/son of Nuur aka son of the Nuur reer which is extraordinary for identifying him as the subject and the reer as the predicate).
It is extraordinary in Somali geneological terms but reflects how important he was to the way the reer wanted to be identified
