This election has taught me Somali culture as an Oral society has a problem with REPITITION VS IMITATION VS SEQUENCE

Post by Gubbet »

Does anybody understand what I mean?

I am not going to lie. I have observed it most directly in SAHAL, and it is probably because he represents the natural, least Western affected Somali thought process out of the majority who post here.

And this is an anamoly or feature strangely very important to one of the vulnerabilities of Somalis as an TRADITIONALLY ORAL SOCIETY.

So basically---an EVENT happens.

1. Sequence is identified by the memory of the event being informed by relevant consequence... So like someone is killed, in return the victim's clan do a gruesom, publlicized aano qabiil... The event is informed by what the original killing resulted in

2.Repitition is identified by the memory of the event being informed by frequency... So like someone is killed, in the same timeframe, a similar killing takes place, qnd then a 3rd. The event is informed by how many times the original killing is comparable to thr occurrence of the same

3. Imitation is identified by the memory of the event being informed by context... So like someone is killed, based on the circumstances perhaps say it was a jealous lover,.. the event is informed by hoe close the circumstances reflect a similar murder's context.

When these people say Farmaajo was against elections when on January 10, 2021 Farmaajo and 3/5 of the September Agreement signstories were so exasperated by spoilets they even unilaterally started elections---rhe culture is displaying a vulnerability with sequencing

In fact, all oral cultures display a weakness with sequence and cause/effect

They even display a weakness with REPITITION. It is difficult as an unlettered society to keep track of meticulous record so there is nothing held on to as a comparison for what is repeated

The only way that Oral traditions can recall something is the presence of IMITATION

You do it once, then it is attributed to something else with similar context

The identifying details are irrelevant at that point.

The original killer is not even the original killer anymore. He could be from Group X

And in the next reincarnation of the story, he is a new group now

Which is how the Wiil waal, Wili Wili, Dhuux Baraar, Duubka Baraxoow, amd Fayla Aaroow stories describing how very disparate clans to each other "uniquely" formed is pretty much the same all over

It is an imitation

This is why it is no longer Farmaajo who wanted elections and even started it on 1/10/2021 but, according to the opposition, it was them who wanted it and started elections!

Farmaajo was the one refusing to sign all this time, not Deni and and Madoobe who even refused to attend the hall!

Imitation you see doesn't depend on the original identifying details, it only needs the context to be remembered and used to inform the reality.

Unfortunately, this is the opposite of how written record informs reality and we arenin the age of the written record.

Please, this is actually a serious discussion topic where potentially PEOPLE (whether they agree with me or not) can learn something.

There is a topic open for you to troll issue.

There is no need to be sensitive because you helped inspire the topic. Alright? Cool.

At the same time you were writing this, one of the oldest members of this forum observed this;
Voltage, your posts have a strange effect on insecure and potentially mentally unstable individuals who browse this site. It has been the case ever since you joined the site too. lol
