Bal u fiirsada qoraalka
In this regard, no Somali is better than another.
There is a serious lack of public toilets across Somalia.
I have seen some public conveniences in Garowe built by UN Ngos, about six in a line. However, there is no excuse for the local municipalities not to be constructing toilets.
Unfortunately, Somalis are generally filthy people. They defile and denude their immediate environment.
There needs to be a massive public health campaign.
Only relieve yourself in a covered toilet......not the pit latrines full of cockroaches and mosquitoes.
Soap and disinfectants must be subsidised and distributed widely.
Hand and face washing campaign to be publicised with caroons and billboards, also taught in schools/ mosques.
All household and commercial waste to be placed in sealed bins, and transported for incineration.
All the above to be backed up with fines.
Furthermore, pit latrines, where the waste leeches into the ground water should be phased out. Septic tanks or cement lining should be used.
While I'm waving my magic wand I'll provide subsidised treated mosquito nets to every household.
I reckon these policies if implemented will reduce 80% of diseases and infections.
As Somalis we must begin to take care of our own issues, and not wait for the white saviors
