Somaliland should ban Ethiopian airlines coming to Somaliland
Don't use Somaliland country code, Somalia tells airlines
The Somali Civil Aviation Authority has warned that if airlines don't comply with the order by August 24, they will be banned from operating in Somali airspace.

Flydubai and Ethiopian Airlines removed "Somaliland" from their websites after Somalia issued an ultimatum to the carriers, demanding that they not use references to the "unrecognised breakaway region" when booking flights.
Somalia's government, through its Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA), sent the warning to Ethiopian Airlines and Flydubai on Wednesday, saying that failing to comply with the directive by August 24, 2024, would result in their being barred from flying over Somalia's airspace.
Somalia's government considers the use of “Somaliland” to refer to the breakaway region in northern Somalia a violation of its sovereignty and a challenge to its territorial integrity.
The region declared independence in 1991 but remains unrecognised internationally.

Somalia's authorities have reiterated that there is no legally recognised state or entity by that name, and all international flights operating in Somalia must respect the country’s territorial boundaries.
“Failure to comply with this directive by August 24, 2024, will result in the immediate suspension of their services in Somali airspace.” the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) said.
When TRT World checked the Ethiopian Airlines website, the Somaliland reference had been removed for the Hergesia airport, which is located in the area claimed by the so-called Somaliland.

In a statement, SCAA said it had communicated with Ethiopian Airlines about its concerns over sovereignty issues.
"It has come to our attention that, instead of addressing the sovereignty issues outlined in our letter, Ethiopian Airlines has made adjustments to its flight operations by removing references to Somali destinations and retaining only airport codes," the statement said.
Somalia and Ethiopia have been at loggerheads after a deal signed between the breakaway region of Somaliland and Ethiopia granted Addis Ababa access to a port in Somaliland. In return, Ethiopia would recognise Somaliland as a sovereign state.
Türkiye has been mediating between the East African countries. Ankara has tabled a two-pronged framework settlement proposal to douse the tensions.

Re: Somaliland should ban Ethiopian airlines coming to Somaliland
What Ethiopian Airlines fails to recognize is that the majority of Somali passengers utilizing their services are from Somaliland. Consequently, a significant portion of their revenue in the Horn of Africa is derived from Somalilanders. Recently, the bunker government issued a threat to suspend Ethiopian flights if the name "Somaliland" was not removed from their website. Just two days later, the airline conceded to this demand. However, what Ethiopian Airlines overlooked is that the majority of walanweyns primarily use Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, and Kenya Airways. While Ethiopian Airlines does operate in the bunker , its flights are far less frequent compared to its services to Somaliland.
In light of this, the Somaliland government should take a decisive stand: if Ethiopian Airlines wishes to remove our name to appease the walanweyn bunker government, then they should no longer be permitted to operate in Somaliland.

That's why I gave up on the iidoors.
They fail to see reason.
Your not recognised yet want the world to treat you as an independent state.
Because of this ignorant stubborn Somali trait you have set your cause back decades.
The biggest missed opportunity was when Somali governments were homeless for around 15 years.
You should have brought the Parliament to Hargeisa , taken the presidency and written your own ticket out of Somalia.
Instead you behaved like typical Somalis......insisting unicorns are real. If you would have followed simple logic you would have been an independent state long ago

Remember I said when ever they take one step back. We should take 3 steps back. Do not protest too much. Just put that MoU in to the dusbin. And cancel any UAE energy companies that did not meat our requirements. Very simple. And when things go bad just pretend like you don't even exist.

If your dooros are not against us , there is nothing wrong with the iidoor goals, in fact iidoors are more capable to create something functioning. By the way we already have our fair share of somalia parliament and arsenal shuraa. Re: Somaliland should ban Ethiopian airlines coming to Somaliland
why ban when Ethiopia has yet to recognise us formally, this latest development has made me realise that this MOU has failed to convince Addis Ababa to recognise us and that Somaliland has to pay an even higher price to get the Ethiopians to formally recognise our independence. The price would be to make Somaliland become in practice an autonomous Ethiopian region the same way Liechtenstein is de facto a canton within Switzerland

What an utterly absurd notion—to suggest that we would ever surrender our nation to an AIDS-stricken country like Ethiopia. Fuck them Let them remain landlocked if they believe they can have their cake and eat it too. No Somalilander would ever wish to join that disease-ridden Ethiopia. Ethiopia was never sincere about the MOU; it merely used it as a bargaining chip against the bunker government fair enough to them . The idea of joining forces with our adversary is beyond ridiculous—are you out of your mind? Madness wa walaatay.. Somaliland should bring Israel fuck these gaajo ethiopiansBigBreak wrote: Fri Aug 23, 2024 9:23 am why ban when Ethiopia has yet to recognise us formally, this latest development has made me realise that this MOU has failed to convince Addis Ababa to recognise us and that Somaliland has to pay an even higher price to get the Ethiopians to formally recognise our independence. Re: Somaliland should ban Ethiopian airlines coming to Somaliland
You already tried Israel 25 years ago.
Returning to failed policies is not gonna work.
I would suggest you accept your part of Somalia....without giving up your secessionist dream.
The price for this new engagement would be to bring the political capital to Hargeisa.
All the Embassies, NGOs, UN, etc would move from Nairobi to Hargeisa..
The first iidoor president would be a mere formality.
You would also undercut the hagites, as well as SSC.....whose only claim to power is that they control Mogadishu.
From this strengthened position you could build up you capacity to the point where a UN referendum could be held.
Khalid......its time to think out of the box.
If you don't make progress you will be heading to civil war.

Re: Somaliland should ban Ethiopian airlines coming to Somaliland
While I don’t entirely disagree, I believe all options should remain on the table. Perhaps we should consider supporting the rise of a Dir-Isaaq president within the bunker government and work collaboratively with him. Although he may be labeled a traitor by some, we could manage to influence the parliament and then advance toward a recognition referendum.
By the way, the Israel of today is not the Israel of 25 years ago. Today’s Israel is pragmatic, facing far more enemies and militant groups than it did decades ago. With the rise of the Houthis, our region has become highly strategic, making it imperative for us to establish ties with Israel to achieve our goals. If we can secure Israel's support, the Americans are likely to follow suit.

Re: Somaliland should ban Ethiopian airlines coming to Somalilandrse
This war between Somaliland and Somalia is being fought in different theatres currently. However, this conflict has been brewing for a long time. We in Somaliland had competent leaders, seasoned diplomats who could read the terrain and move accordingly. Today what we have are the vampires in the south who after eating their own for the best part of 30 years are now turning their sights on us. Leading us is one of the worst leaders the Isaaq people have produced in the last 100 years. And just in case anyone things I’m being sub Tribalist add Salebaan and M Kaahin to that list also. We Isaaq’s are going through the dark ages with not one competent leader in sight.
Khalid Muse has given our enemies the confidence the SNM destroyed. This man is truly blind with no hope. Everytime I see him walk he reminds me of an extra from the walking dead. That’s his PR game. Oh, look, Muse can run. He can’t unite Isaaq because Everytime he speaks he insults someone.
What I don’t get is. How do you go from I will offer you 20km to Ethiopian airlines being forced to remove the Somaliland name. And don’t talk shit. Muse would never ban them because his nephews is the only travel agent in Somaliland. As we both know muse’s other hobby besides being shit at politics as grafting. He charges the Ethiopian airline customers double the price to what Ethiopian airline charges. So, no we cannot ban Ethiopian airlines.
Muse has destroyed our image as a powerhouse in the Somalia peninsula. His destroyed our ability to deal with Ethiopia on an equal bases. His destroyed our relationship with the lonely hungry heathens qurjiles. He’s destroyed our image as a free and fair democracy by extending his term on and on. What has he achieved Khalid?

We have nothing to loose here. We have an insurance plan called Somalia. I can kill a Indian. And fiqi will pay the diya plus beg Modi to calm down .

Re: Somaliland should ban Ethiopian airlines coming to Somaliland
you didn't understand what I said, this is NOT what I am advocating for and I actually am fed up with this MOU now, all I was doing is merely saying that what it would take to make Ethiopia officially support our separation.....it's now clear that Ethiopia doesn't really suuport an independent SL they want to annex us in one way or another and we must be very careful Khalid. hope you now understand what I wroteKhalid Ali wrote: Fri Aug 23, 2024 9:33 amWhat an utterly absurd notion—to suggest that we would ever surrender our nation to an AIDS-stricken country like Ethiopia. Yes, Muse is indeed dreadful, perhaps the worst of the worst. But what can we do? What alternatives do we have? How can we navigate this situation? The personalities of the politics is bad we need to bring a person who can beat Ethiopia and the walanweyns in their game , who can we bring forward to bring such a policy
