How is it that ear piercings are supposedly flags to mark your sexuality? That is by far one of the stupidest things I've heard in quite a number of years... and I've heard some stupid stuff. Perhaps those of you WITH pierced ears can clarify this? Confused

To attract attention from the opposite sex. What other use does it serve? Think about it.

Let me tell you a little known fact. Among the oldest art work, more then 22, 000 years old, is pornagraphic (ie. Venus of Willendorf). Usually in the form of nude female form. In fact, most prehistoric (stone age) art were focused on depicting nude human forms and reproductive organs (emphasis on breasts and waists!) and of course hunting for obvious reasons.

Everything you do to express yourself from clothes you wear, makeup, jewelry, words you use... is subconsciously intended to attract suitable mate. You don't actually think of it that way but that is what you're actually doing. It is so engrained into your genes, it becomes automatic.

I beg to differ DD, just like in the animal world not all physical appearance is meant for the opposite sex. For example, animals that use mimicry as an adaptive tool to defend themselves or to blend with thier environment cannot be doing so for mating purposes. I mean every species has certain habits and behaviours reserved for attraction and mating. and while Human body piercing may have historical orgins in enhancing sexual appeal, a great number of expressions and habits displayed by humans are unrelated to mating. Much of human behaviour patterns are largely due to adjusting to one's social environment. Therefore, I cannot agree with you that all externally percieved behavior is for the purpose of attracting the opposite sex.

You're right, self defense is another reason. But other then those two reasons(attracting opposite sex and self-defense), I can't think of any other explanation for human self adornment such as donning of body art etc. Even blending into community can go to either category.

I wouldn't say it would be flags to mark our sexuality... The mothers pierce their daughters ears so that their kids can be blinged out. Laughing

Penis piercings look awfully painful but i can't say i haven't considered getting one.

Zabah--One way ear piercings can mark your sexuality is that gay men pierce their right ear only whereas straightment pierce either left ear or both. I aint kidding about this walahi.
