The begining of the end of warlordism?

Post by Caydid »

Yesterday an unprecedent operation took place in Mogadishu. For the first time in years, the power of the warlords in mogadishu was challenged by civilians and religious leaders. These follows a period when grassroots movements started courts (islamic courts). The courts have been slowely building an army to fight the warlords. The good thing about this is that the members represent somalis from a wide spectum of clans united to fight the warlords.

Facing the threat of losing their standings (tribal vernom) the warlords met in Mogadishu to start an organisation called "fighting terrorism". This is of course the mantra of the neopolitics. These fighters are not terrorists, they are people who took matters into their own hands with the sole purpose of creating law and order. Meanwhile in Puntland a number of religious leaders were arrested. The authorities there are feeling the heat of a revolution in the making.

These movements would spread to all over somalia and end up as a strong entity that is capable of bringing peace to somalia. The warlords are going to Baidoa to receive their dollar handouts from A president that is not recognised outside his clan and a PM whose only merits is bringing to forth A maxamed dheere.

The only problem as I see is that Mogadishu would experience a period of uncertainity (there is a free market, freedom of expression) . The dollar would rise in price. Warlords would do everything to sabotage the grassroots movements. The religious courts would be infiltrated by tribalists. But insha Allah, I wish them well and pray they stand united.

The dying president would see this an opportunity and rally to the rescue of threatened warlords. This is very likely given the language of real politics in the world. But the dying president would die a low death if he attempts to intefere.

Absame, you know what bro, Somalis die on daily basis. Dozens were killed in the galgaduud region this week. Hundreds are dying of hunger and starvation. Another dozen are killed in cities such Toronto, London, MN.

But something is happening in Mogadishu. A revolution and I hope it spills over in the other parts of somalia.

Aydiid, Are you trying to find justification for the destruction that Hawiye folks brought to Somalia, the shame and warlordism .

Aren't they monkeys, ugly monkeys?

Absame, a monkey is not neccessarily a bad animal. It is at least a primate (chances are that your knowledge of biology is not that good!).

Hawiya were not alone in the destruction of somalia. This was a collective process and every clan participated in its destruction.

Have you seen a beautiful monkey????

Aydiid, When the former president left his palace, he left the city unscathed and most important an intact city .

All you should do was to reconstitute a transitional government in the near absence of him. Instead, you began looting , pillaging and killing, not to mention raping. Countrymen from the tribal encampments flooded over the city and created this mayhem. By contrast, the north rebuilt from its ruin.

What is the fine line between you monkeys and them?

generaalka LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL. That was a funny line.

The "palace" is still intact. The whole somalia problem is about the palace.

Monkeys? Do they have them in the arid gelinka shanaad? Monkeys are primates; there are different species (groups) of monkeys.

Ceeydiid

Amiin.

Are they better than the warlords? Yes a 1000 times. I have seen their work first hand, and their generosity reminded me of Hamas and Hizbullah in regards to the social services they offered to the people and filled the law and order vaccum. However, they never made it a secret, when I enquired their view of Somalia, they told me that they will not tolerate a divided Somalia, and their political orientation is pretty much the same as the Talibans. So they are not some disperate coalition of civilians and religious groups as you said, but a well organised and coordinated organisation led by Sheekh Aweeys, an ex-fighter with the Afghani Mujaahideens who has connections all over Somalia including Boosaaso and Somaliland, and in particular Burco. It doesn't look great, since much of Somalia is suffering from draught, and if this war drags on, there will be many casualties and suffering of the people, and realistically, I don't see them winning in the end.
