Somali civil engineering student Mukhtar Ahmed Osman was beaten unconscious in the snow by a gang of teenagers in a Moscow suburb, nobody came to his aid.

While much of the violence seems to be purely racist, some believe Africans are also targeted as scapegoats for Russian society's ills and the media is often accused of fostering an image of African students as drug-dealers.

The attacks have turned murderous in recent years. In St Petersburg, three Africans have been killed in suspected race attacks since September.

Non-African foreign students have also been murdered, but it is the black students who attract most attention from the racists.

Juldas, now leader of the African students at RUDN, says "monkey" insults and actual assaults are so frequent that students have ceased reporting them.

"We see it as normal now because that's how we live."

Anyway, to go back to the article, I must say that I felt sorry for the poor dude. Russia is a brutal place these days for colored people. I actually know a girl that lived in Moscow for a while; she worked for Adidas Europe, which had a branch in Moscow. Anyway she told me that the Ideology in Russia has changed from Socialism to Nazism. She said that one day while she was on the train going to work; she had some A-holes set her on fire. Nothing serious happened to her, thank god. She just took off her coat which was burning and got off the train.

I have a cousin who lived in Moscow for over 10 years. He went there to study. It's horrible place man.

I was in Russia six months ago. Like any other country in the west, racism is a common thing (towards the people from the caucauses (spelling!). There are also neonazi gangs that have killed many africans (Lamumba university was set on fire).

But the majority of russians are good people.

No bro I was on transist ( I stayed a week). My dad was trained in Russia and he used to tell me about Russia. So I decided to take a look. It is abeautiful country. Good transport infrastructure. Good people but there are in the process of adopting to the rules of democracy.

If you want guns you travel to the balkans and central africa.- nut mother russia.
