is the mind a divine gift, ruling the gody linking with the eternal world of ideas, knowable only by reflection?...

I got this email from a friend trying to go into discussion with me about soul and body which eventually will rest on Descardes phyilosophy. this is what he says

'I believe that the soul is a special substance whose task was to rule the body. its endowed, he says, by God with reason and could only be known through reason..

this is how I replied because of my religion:

The see the self and soul as fallen, inhabiting a physical body, but essentially connected with the highest world. at death, body and soul seperate, the body to return to corruption, the soul to go to judgement and either heaven or hell. therefore its crucial that body and soul are separable. and any theory such as my friends that made soul a by-product of bodily processes would fail to take into account either its being a divine endowment or its being able to have an eternal destiny once its temporal body was no more...

what do you think, am I making sense?.. do I need to tell him more

Mind (which is not exactly soul... soul is a more philosophical concept. Science has not proven yet that soul exists) is the dictator in the republic of the body, as Basra once said. Without mind, the body is lost.
