Pakistani intelligence sources told ABC News the raid on Oct. 30 was not launched by Pakistani helicopters but a missile-firing US Predator drone after US intelligence received tips that al QaedaÂ’s No.2 may have been staying at the school, which is located in Chingai village in the Bajur tribal district near the Afghan border. Earlier reports claimed 80 deaths in the attack.
The same Pakistan sources believe two to five senior al Qaeda clerics were killed, but doubt that Zawahiri was among them. They think one of the dead was Maulana Liaquat said to be protecting Zawahiri, and another, the mastermind of the airliners plot in Britain. They also claim Osama bin LadenÂ’s deputy is "boxed" in a 40-square mile area between Khalozai Valley in Basjur and Pashat in Kunar, Afghanistan."
