Abdiwahab,
Do you think Range just went ahead and spent all that money without first looking at the legality of their explorations? Iam pretty sure once they find commercial potential they will buy the contract off from Conco , if they hadn't already done so.
Puntland has better chances in dealing with companies then somaliland, first of all Puntland is a federal state within federated somalia, they legally have the right to negotiate their own business contarcts with international companies without the centeral goverment's consent.
Somaliland in the other hand claim to be a seprate entitiy from Somalia and the chances Somaliland securing a deal like this is 0% , its all about legality.
As far as the world is concerned somaliland is illegal entity a break away republic where as puntland is Somalia and hence legall.

Xplaya> if you go the Conoco Site, the company lists its Somalia oil fields as a part of its assets (under potential explorative sites) at about 35 million barrels. Range is a small outfit from Australia which has been receiving scurtiny from the Australian securities agency for improper activities.
Never the less, you are right about Somaliland. I suppose Abdirahman Tuur should have created a government of Somalia based in Hargeisa and set the wheels for Wuuqoyi domination of Konfuur.

Conoco has shown in the past Somalia's importance to its bottom line

Somaliman% don't get so happy, the oil potential in puntland is very small compared to other areas in somalia.
These are the main crucial areas for oil in somalia
The Guban area of the north, particulary the new Sahel and Awdal regions.
The Banaadir region between Mogadishu-Afgooye and Baraawa, including Marka.
The Somali embayment of Lower Mudug and Galgaduud regions, including offshore Hobyo.
the Nugaal Valley between Qardho and Bandar Beila.
As you know the guban area belongs to dhulbaate and warsengali, so they could be potentially rich.
The banaadir region belongs entirely to hawiya of various subclans
Lower Mugdud and entire Galgaduud belongs especially only to Haber Gider
Hobyo belongs exclusively only to sacads
The only oil potential in Mj lands is the NUgaal valley between qardho and bandar beila.
There you see once, the Hawiya's get full peace and stability they are going to end up to become the richest somali's ever, because the juiciest oil potentials are within their lands, we are talking about billions of Gallons not just a speck of 300 million like you say that is within puntland.

galia if theres more oil in south than puntland. then why did the Conoco one of the biggest oil companies go to nugaal and not banaader.
i think its a fact that somalias oil is mostly located in Bari, Nugaal, sool, sanaag. and in other northern parts of the country.
the land in the north is similar to those in arab countries.
and i take it you didnt watch the documentry they say billions of dollars will come out of it much more than yemen. and hopefully saudi arabia.
Costa the oil exploration will this time happen in nugaal and bari only in majerten territory. we dont want rer baadiye ediots who try 2 kill the white workers, when they're actaully helping in developing their land.
