Galia,

The "T" in TFG doesn't stand for Tigre. It stands for temporary. There is suposed to be an election in less than two years to relace this government with one truly representative of the Somali people.

In 1969 Siad Barre seized the reins of power, entered the Cold War Russian sphere of influence, cut off communication with Americans and kicked all the American programs out of the country.

In 1991-93 America participated in various humanitarian and nation-building schemes that were ultimately unsuccessful because there was no peace between multiple armed groups on the ground. It is a mistake to characterize any of this as a defeat for America or a victory for Somalia. The Clinton administration judged the situation in Somalia to be "immature".

The recent EU, AU and Arab League votes on the peacekeepers should tell you something about what the outside world thinks of the situation.

Not many think it was the cadaans that screwed the country up. My personal feelings are that Somalis didn't need a bit of help.
