The monetary difference between each party is a mere 100 billion in the greater scheme of things. The debt ceiling will be raised without question and it will be business as usual. The right is not stupid to cause a default and tarnish the proud reputation of America, as shaamboo said, they are only trying to embarrass Obama, since the economy is the only ground they have left to win the next election

Also isn't majority of the debt held by the Fed Reserve? Why don't they just forgive the American government? It would be quite simple, since they basically print money and buy the debt securities
