I visited backhome last year and what I witnessed was something that I remember as a child. Not only did I visit Somalia but also went to the country side, I mean miyiga. There was this wedding (Aroos) in the country side (miyiga) and what kids were doing reminded me something I tried as a child. After the people finished eating the food, started their JAANDHEER dance, kept doing it all night, eventually they all stopped and went home around 3:30AM. Small groups of youngesters sneaked behind the Arooska (Aqal Soomaaliga). Remember the pride and pridegroom are in the wedding house (Aqalka Arooska); however, they are not aware of youngersters who are hiding behind the wedding house. The youngers are in there for a reason and that is they want to hear something (a shouting) while they are not being detected Around 4:30AM just before the Fajr Adhan (Azan/Athan) - Islamic Call to Prayer at Fajr (Dawn), the youngersters heard a noise and before they could hear the real noise, they couldn't resisted the temptation and started laughing all out loud The bridegroom heard the noise, understood what the youngersters were doing, came out and chase the kids

That was what one youngers later on told us.

The point of this post is this is something that Somali nomads do to the bride and bridegroom even tough the couple are not aware of it. They do it for fun iyo nin rag ah weeye, wuxuu sameeyey ma maqashay Keep in mind all praises go to the bridegroom

Disgusting and exactly the reason why I hate reer badiye people! Even their children are out of control. This is not funny nor amusing.

Alluring, but people still do it. Naga dee inaadeer we can't change the people overnight. Actually, people discipline their kids if they found out doing it but somehow it still prevails. You found this to be disgusting? FGM is still practiced there. That is even more problematic and savagery than this.

There we go, we need to get over this westernized version of viewing every thing that is Somali. Believe it or not, Somali nomads are not going change overnight. They say "nin rag ah weeye, nin rag ah weeye"

Next time you visit backhome, ask those guys in Oog/Caynaba and they will throw a big laugh. It is something the nomads do and parents don't condone it but since Somalis are oral society, the youngesters pick it up from the rest of the men, and they just do it for fun and show off. Obviously there will be worse traditions, I mean come on, people will be people but that doesn't mean you have to praise bad customs like what those little kids are doing. It's not something good. I'm a girl btw.

Obviously, it is not good for the mind of these youngesters and it is not a good caqiidah but when you look at the environment, you would say let it past. Remember, you are dealing with nomadic and oral society. All they want to say is "Nin rag ah weeye, nin rag ah weeye, and so forth" I agreed it is not civil but it is there!
