An elementary student in Melbourne, Fla., was taken into custody after he allegedly shot eight students with a BB gun as they waited at a school bus stop, according to police.

Police said a group of students was waiting for a school bus on Temple Terrace Road off Aurora Road in Melbourne when the boy walked up and opened fire on the children.

Eight students were hit and many of them had welts on their body from the pellets, Local 6 News reported.

Police told Local 6 News that they do not know why the students were shot. He was being questioned Tuesday morning.
