I'm sure you heard of the Enron & WorldComm accounting frauds that occured in the US. I'm sure you heard of the MASSIVE jail sentences slapped on those people.

Because accounting frauds of that order JEOPARDIZE confidence in the integrity of the US economy. If confidence in the US economy is lost, guess what? A recession, even a depression can occur.

We might see something of the order of the Asian/South American economic crises a while back.
