Please help with somali recipe - luhuh?
Asalamu alaikum everyone,
Nice forum. I'm new here, I hope you could help me out with a small favour.
I'm not somalian however my somali friend used to make this recipe she called "luhuh" - she made it for me a few times and I notice that it's eaten with olive oil and sugar, I loved it!!
I'm despirately searching for the recipe but have no success.
Can anyone help me please.
It looks like a thin pancake with coils, it's very thin and if you know what it is please help me out.
Thank you so much!! Jazakum Allah khair.

Re: Please help with somali recipe - luhuh?
i think its best u get intouch with your somali friend who introduced it to u, or find other somalis around u for that matter. i say this because making lahooh require more than just getting a recipe of the net. the recipe is simple. flour, water and yeast mixed together. but there's a technique to making it that is quite difficult to master so it's best u have someone demonstrate it for u.
good luck
good luck

We southerners call it anjeero and there are specially made anjeero flour you can find nowadays which is alot easier, then you simply mix that with water and cook it, I'm sure you know the rest.
But not everyone finds it easy to make anjeero and like zulaika said you may need someone with you the first time until you get the hang of it.

Assalaamu alaikum,
Thanks! Actually my friend is in Yemen, it's very hard to get in contact with her. What she told me was exactly what you told me, she made it several times and tried to describe how it was made, she also wanted to show me but I left shortly after.
I'm in Canada and I don't have any somali connections however I'm a good cook and hopefully I can master it at least a quarter as good as hers.
So how much is the ratio of flour to water and yeast?

The version the Yemenis make here is millet flour with a sour-dough yeast. I think the hard part is getting it off the gridle?

Re: Please help with somali recipe - luhuh?
I heard the yemenis make it too, I asked my friend while I was there and she said hers was strictly somali (I hope)
I remember the luhuh has a slight sour taste to them, they were round, the size of a large plate and the coil affect can clearly be seen.
So is what I'm describing actually a somali recipe or a yemeni one?

COSTA,
I dont' get what this has to do with digestive issues at all.
Generally a food made of flour or starch should not cause digestive problems. Plus it's not very fiberous because the flour was white I believe.
If you're refering to yeasts causing some bloating in the system, then yeasts are in most breads and almost all breads don't cause serious noticable issues.

I don't know where these questions are leading to or what is the necessity of them.
This is my first time here, I'm not somali and I'm sorry to say that I find some members very very disrespectful and this no way my somali friend ever communicated with me, her manners were great, and she had some wonderful hospitality.
To those members who sincerely from their hearts, thank you, it is much appreciated.
