Muslims didn't ever "rule the world". So let's get our facts straight.

The various Khalifs were powerful forces in the world for a long time, but that was then, this is now. You can't keep a socio-political system that is unchanging for century after century and expect to compete in the modern world. It doesn't work that way.

It was not the "known world". Where you have continuous landmass, then obviously you know there is more world you have yet to explore and conquor. Why did the Muslims stop at Western China? Why did the Muslims stop and not go deeper into Sub-Saharan Africa? Why did the Muslims not occupy Europe - which was OBVIOUSLY part of the known world of the time (since it was warring all the time with Muslims). Come on.......you are being disingenous here. you don't have to coquor every land mass on earth to rule the World
you rule the world when you are the most powerful, and most of world affairs is run by you , you don't have to invade barbarian people in Germenia,scandinavia or the jungles of sub-saharan Africa to rule the world
you invade the civilized nations, the powerful ones so they will not challenge you for power.
