If you read that sentence real closely, you'd see how he's putting us all in one bracket to prove a point that we're perhaps inferior to his people.

I see the author was trying to prove a point by summoning with the words of the president to prove his whatever case..but what i have hard time understanding is how you thought i was directing my disapproval to the words of siyaad barre. I just thought he mis used the president's own words to prove his point while you perhaps thought otherwise.
