Tiny 'sultanates'

Post by Warsame101 »

The purpose of this thread is to discover whether Spragga Benz’s revisionist history is accurate.

According to him, the Majeerteen sultanate were ‘powerful’ sultanates who controlled vast amount of lands and dozens of tribes as their subjects.

History says contrary to his fairytales.

The Majeerteen sultanates were in fact petty and fragile sultanates that did not extend real authority but were merely subjects of the Italians. They were tiny sultanates who had at most 100 huts and a few stone houses as stated by many Italian travellers.

On top of that, they were founded on Italian’s protection and were practically under Italian’s rule.

I, apart from Spragga Benz’s unsubstantiated statements, will provide you real references and quotations of credible and authoritative historians and travellers. Bear in mind that this is a brief research and not an extensive one.

Piero Biancani who is the Italian expert in Somali affairs wrote in his book ‘Somalia (1920)’ the areas that Yusuf Ali used to rule were actually areas already inhabited by other Majeerteens and the new area inhabited by Hawiye (Hobyo):

“Yusuf Ali, an 'Isman Mahmud Migiurtino, emigrated from the shore of the Gulf of Aden toward the south and founded the Sultanate of Obbia, thus carving out a territorial State that included the zones inhabited principally by the Migiurtine tribes of the 'Omar Mahmud and 'Isa Mahmud and by the Hawiyya tribe of the Habar Gidir.”

The Times did an article on this saying that the Italians first gained a foothold of Somalia through Obbia when they offered Yusuf Ali a protectorate and he happy hosted the Italian flag out of joydom. They said that its terrotiry was less than 180 miles and the habitants were Hawiye only.

See Image:

Signor Robecchi stated that after arriving Obbia, he intended to head out for the inland but Yusuf Ali warned him but he still insisted and crossed the country of the Mareexaan in which he describes them as fanatical Muslims who opposed any foreigners in their country. This demonstrates that no Italian entered any Mareexaan country and that they already had their own boundaries.

Journal of the Royal African Society mentions that it has established Residence in the Obbia village in which it described as a village of consisting 500 inhabitants (majority were Habar Gidir). It had 40 huts and two stone houses which were placed under the protection of the Italians Laughing

Even with the protection and aid of the Italians, it remained a tiny sultanate and did not surpass that. In fact, it is an insult to call it a sultanate.

Laughing Do these kids not know that we are Marexaans cousin? They don't understand we will get to the truth and we will show it once we are provoked.

Once again good post; come on Marexaans on S.net are the elites when it comes to distributing information, debating, and knowing [factual] tariikh.

Sadeboi, ma la yaabtay how a small village with mere huts can be called a "sultanate" Laughing

One thing that did happen was that they ruled the Hawiye inhabitants.

Sadaam, why don't you disappear again instead of using multi-nicks.

I can't argue with you there walaal. Even though I polished my statements in that other thread, I still welcome your rebuttal Warsame.

You concur that we conquered and ruled the Hawiye. Do you think that we exaggerated on that aspect of Hobyo's history? I can't personally place the idea of Hawiye's enslavement, which is what most Majeerteen claim.

Spragga, Hawiye were under Yusuf Cali's rule. That is a fact which cannot be denied.

Yes, but I doubt that the Hawiye were enslaved. I don't mean enslaved in the classical version. But subdued so severely, that Yusuf Cali could do them as he pleased.

If u merehans have a feud with Mj, then please do not involve us Haber Gider.

sadeboi do not disrespect us Haber Gider, since we established our dominace in central somalia over 200 yrs ago we forced the merehans to head south.

Warsengali or dhulbaante never really came to Mudug therefore they never tamed us, get ur facts right.

Sultan keenadid never had Mj soldiers against sacad, that man brought Arab fighters with that old powder guns, thats why he took over Hobyo.

Therefore Mj never beat Haber Gider in battle, never.

I never said enslaved, Somalis never enslaved each other, that is absurd. However, the village and its surrounding areas was under his rule and the main inhabitants were Hawiye, particulary Habar Gidir.

Rule does not equate to enslavement.

Sadaam, stop killing the thread with your idiotic questions. New name or old name, I do not care.

Karbaash_killa, adeer, I know it must be a shock to you but this is history. Ajuraan were a leagu on their own and never ruled other clans, except some minorities. They were defeated by the Abgaal many times which made them very weak in the later course.

But why are you boasting about Ajuraan's history? You are not Ajuraan and do not share abtiris with them, you are Habar Gidir and Sacad particulary.

Yusuf Cali Keenadiid OWNED HAWIYE... in literal sense my friend

Ajuraan Sultanate was only shining light of Hiraab and Hawiye, while Daarood subclans each have or had a powerful Sultanates in Northern and Central Somalia

Kablalax( Ogadeen and Harti)
Sade(Mareexaan-->Reer Diini)
Tanade(Leelkase--->Reer Xaaji i believe)
Awrtable(in Nugaal)

Ajuraan and small Mudulood Sultanates what else did Hawiye have?

Colonial servitude is heredity and runs deep into the history of some clans!
