Did a Mareexan really say Shermarke was better then Adden? Mareexan it seems are changing for the better.

But yeah only reason he got killed is because he was putting a stop to Majeerteen corruption. He fired Abdirizak Haji Hussein and made Egal Vice President and he fired the Speaker of the House which was Majeerteen and replaced it with a Hawiye. He made things fair but not in the eyes of some ignorant Majeerteen.

I think a coup was inevitable because of all the corruption in that administration. If it wasn't Barre, it would have one of the other military men. Did you read Ceydiid's book? He said he was planning a coup with Cabdullahi Yusuf at the same time as Barre. I don't know how much truth that book contains but it would have been funny if Cabdullahi Yusuf and Ceydid were successful.

Stop lying. I read Caydiid (AUN) book and all it said was that he approached Egal about the rumors of a coup plot and wanted his approval to prepare operations to squash it. Caydiid said he and Cabdullahi Yusuf were acquaintances and could be counted on squashing any coup.

The coup was not a surprise. Egal just made the mistake of being not decisive and assuming the Presidency but instead was running around trying to get a Cisman maxmuud replacement for AbdiRashid.

Finally, I agree with something u posted.

My predictions on what would have happened if there had been no Coup:

Abdullahi Ciise would have been elected President in the 1972 elections. The rotation of power would have gone from one clan to another. Somalis frustrated with political leaders would vote them out. Each group would have believed in the system and would wait their turn.

The President & Cabinet would have to be accountable to the Parliment and thus no power would be concentrated in 1 person.

We would have continued to become the "Beacon of Democracy" in Africa.

Dictatorship was the worst calamity to befall us.
