Are we already pre-destined to do, or to be WHO we are? Do we have a choice? Ok i think we do have a choice--its called the power of 'intention', but i think thats the ONLY thing we can guarantee we can control and be accountable for; the rest is God willing.So my question is--is it already pre-ordained who is going to HELL and who is not? Has God given us 'free Will' to see what our 'intentions' will be with the free will?

Free Will vs Predetermination has always been a favorite topic throughtout history. In Islamic philosophy, there were two main schools who have handled it: the Mutazilite who have advocated that man has free will and that his will is what determines his outcomes whereas the Asha'rites believed that man has no free will and Allah is what determines for us. Al-Ghazali was the main advocate for the Asha'rites!


I, for one, believe that although I have no say in when I was born, when I will die, what gender I am, but I choose what to do or not do.

No. We are here for a reason and a purpose. Our destinies are known to Allah (swt) alone. Our actions are of our own choosing, our destinies are decided by our creator and were written out years before the earth was even created according to the Prophet (saw).

it is pre-ordained , so you are free to do what you always wanted to do and could'nt because of fear of HELL.

We have choices to be bad or good and we've given instict to know what is right, wrong, justice. There's things we have no choice for instance sociaty we born in, race, parents and our apperences.

No, it all depends on our deeds. Allah didn’t put everyone in perspective places, nor did Allah decide 2 chuck certain ppl in Hell without given an opportunity neither. The whole concept of life is a mere chance 2 tolerate ppl prove their worthiness of entering Heaven. Apparently, without this freedom, humans couldn’t have been tested. In such case, they would have been good/bad, not by choice but by default.

Allah is the ultimate power, even though He does not meddle directly in petty human daily affairs. Thus, Allah only has “Free-Will”, and whatever Allah wills will always happen. We on the other hand, have a “Freedom of choice”. The foundation of everything is our intentions, and we’ll be judged on our choices, and not the outcomes of things. As illustrated in the Quran --- “Whoever has done an atom’s weight of good shall get its reward and whoever has done an atom’s weight of evil shall meet with its consequences” --- (Al-Zalzalah 99:7-8). This demonstrates that Muslims have certain degree of freedom, and they are neither fatalists, nor masters of their fate......
