it is both English and Somali....the pronunciations and meanings are different.

Shire is the British equivalent of county. The word "sheriff" comes from it. He was the chief law-enforcement officer of the shire. The English shire is a single sylable pronounced with a long "i", and the Somali shire is two sylables, pronounced with a short "i".
