Re: TO THE CANADIANS and BRITISH
Actually, no.
But let me tell you the process. Health Care in Canada is free based on two logic's
1.) Welfare
2.) Insurance (from work).
Most of residents in Canada are on welfare, this ensuring them free health care. (Giving respect to the poor)
Insurance, those who work.
But the Emergency rooms are not equipped with the best Doctors. It takes awhile to even be seen.

Re: TO THE CANADIANS and BRITISH
Hey Grant and Alluring, you guys should read Mountains Beyond Mountains about Dr Paul Farmer.
Review:
"From School Library Journal
Adult/High School-Thought-provoking and profoundly satisfying, this book will inspire feelings of humility, admiration, and disquietude; in some readers, it may sow the seeds of humanitarian activism. As a specialist in infectious diseases, Farmer's goal is nothing less than redressing the "steep gradient of inequality" in medical service to the desperately poor. His work establishing a complex of public health facilities on the central plateau of Haiti forms the keystone to efforts that now encompass initiatives on three continents. Farmer and a trio of friends began in the 1980s by creating a charitable foundation called Partners in Health (PIH, or Zanmi Lasante in Creole), armed with passionate conviction and $1 million in seed money from a Boston philanthropist. Kidder provides anecdotal evidence that their early approach to acquiring resources for the Haitian project at times involved a Robin Hood type of "redistributive justice" by liberating medical equipment from the "rich" (Harvard) and giving to the "poor" (the PIH clinic). Yet even as PIH has grown in size and sophistication, gaining the ability to influence and collaborate with major international organizations because of the founders' energy, professional credentials, and successful outcomes, their dedicated vision of doctoring to the poor remains unaltered. Farmer's conduct is offered as a "road map to decency," albeit an uncompromising model that nearly defies replication. This story is remarkable, and Kidder's skill in sequencing both dramatic and understated elements into a reflective commentary is unsurpassed."

DawladSade,
America's population even with the increased illegal immigration is overwhelming compared to Canada's 30 million population.
America is 300+ Million.
It really hard to sustain proper health care.

Dowladsade,
Canadas hearlth is free but its pain in the ass. Unless its an emergency situation, they'd put you on the waiting list and sometimes it takes up to 4 weeks before you see a doctor. If you have your own money, then they will see you right in the spot. The American health card isnt bad. My Company pays 80% of the clos which is fine by me. They only charge me $60 a month!

No, that won't work. But you MAY be able to pull it off ONCE, if you can finesse your way around it. A LOT of people here just borrow another person's card. I have the one that DOESN'T have a picture, so it's easy.
Alluring
No, darling, it's NOT based on either of those. If you're an Ontario resident, (landed immigrant, refugee, citizen, etc) you apply for and receive your OHIP card. That's it. Present it, and you're good. Rich, poor, welfare, whatever. Doctor's just bill the province.
MJ
TOTally wrong.

Re: TO THE CANADIANS and BRITISH
Health Care is completely free to ALL, theres no class/race divide, so alluring thats false.
If ur a resident/citizen u receive a Health Card that covers all medical expenses except on certain perscription meds. Wait time at hospitals are on average 5hrs, u can find a study on that which the gov promises to reform. Our high taxes plus prioritizing both health care and education (tuition) puts Canada in a league of its own like a nation such as the US with 3rd world health care system.
But the government whether ur on welfare/not doesnt cover Dental, so u either have private insurance or cover the cost out of ur own pocket.

MJ theres alot of factors, reasons a Somali would move to the states maybe for a job? A lot of young professional Somalis finish school here and might migrate for employment prospects that arent found here. On the flip side u have americans migrating here from a higher social class and most likely caucasians for social matters because of there views of US policys over seas and such. Kinda stupid but no Somali Canadian citizen would ever trade there citizenship just to be a US resident.

Re: TO THE CANADIANS and BRITISH
But Michael / Neocon the whole country of Canada isn't only Ontario, that is merely one province.
Dental is not covered until the age of 18 (same with American policies).
The old have Medicare
The young have Medicaid
There are also State provided healthcare.
In America.
Who can wait 5 hours in a hospital, that is a long time, especially when there is probably 5 ER doctors.
I see no vast differences.

Re: TO THE CANADIANS and BRITISH
Alluring ur kinda slow, Canadas divided into provinces, some quiet wealthy, some poor, taxes vary, allocation of resources vary. All Canadians in there respected province are covered under the Canadian Health Care System. Our system is known as medicare however its not refered to such but the Canadian Health Care Insurace, all is covered. Private insurace corps exist but were not predicting privatization anytime soon.

Re: TO THE CANADIANS and BRITISH
When a person disagrees with your opinion it would be best to convince them why they should agree with your stance, calling someone slows shows that you have a short fuse.
Everyone is aware of the 10 provinces and 3 territories of Canada. The fact of the matter is Canada's health care is not as effective as they would like for us to believe. It has many imperfections. You must look at both Canada and United States population, and other various dispositions. For instance, Canada's technological advances are far less, than America. America's spend most of the money in reassuring new machines and medicine.
