I heard that prices of commodities are exorbitant and you need to carry a lot of cash to buy something, no matter how small that item may be. Coupled with that is the ever volatile security situation, the question is, how could you carry all that money that you need to buy something without risking your life?

I dont know about Xamar...but I have couple of friends who just came back from Hargeisa and Boosaaso and they say its safe..

Everyone uses dollars except when buying veggies and hilib then you carry Somali Shillings.

When I went to Somalia last summer, people carried around money in plastic bags and it was alright and save I guess. The thing is when you try and give $$ to someone, they prefer US dollars to the Somali currency,and they use it with out converting it to shillings at all. Confused
