The only ticket for international recognition is a government in Xamar. That Dowlad would also have to have strong Issaq/Waqooyi Galbeed interests at hand.

Because outside countries ARE NOT going to recognize Somaliland. It has to come from Somalis.

I think the status quo is going to be in Somaliland for the time being and beyond though. Thats a lot better than them being like other Africans and abusing the IMF and World Bank, right?

Somaliland will be part of Somalia in the eyes of the outside world, but in the eyes of Somalis it will be a seperate administration with no connection to the south. If the south ever got a government and it refused to recognize Somaliland, what would happen is that SL would be very isolated in relations to stuff the Southern Government would be able to do.

BUT, The South will never have a government, so SL doesn't have to worry about that Laughing

Somalia will have a functioning government soon, either the Islamists seize again or in 2009 democratic elections that will calm down the country.

If you think about Somaliland has never been in better situation than today...

Puntland is chased out of Las Anood and worse things in Puntland are getting disfunctional.

TFG is falling apart because of greed of its leaders and the oppression committed against people of Mogadishu.

If anything Somaliland has the future of Somalia in their hand, they can either stay independent or can join Somalia...and convince the Southern tribes like Hawiyees and minority tribes to support them in establishing the country. Things have never look this bright for Somaliland, but unfortunately every good story has loser...and in this case the losers are the Daroods who are attached to Somaliland.
