Re: American Soldiers Marrying Iraqis
A number of American Soldiers married Somalis back in the early 90s too. It's usually not too many, though, because the women are afraid for religious reasons and the men have limited contact with local women in combat zones.
I know of one marriage that worked out really well. But most did not..... cultural divide is severe. I also know an American female officer who married a Somali man.

Re: American Soldiers Marrying Iraqis
masha allah, interesting stuff
"On July 25, Maj. James Michael Ahearn was buried in Arlington cemetery. More than 300 people came to mourn him. Lena, the war bride widowed by a war without end, saw to it that in the tradition of Islam Jimmy was cleansed and buried with a Qur'an at his side. Last month she packed up the home they had made together near Fort Bragg, N.C., and moved to Texas to be closer to her sister Mariam. As Lena put pictures of Jimmy into boxes, her toddling daughter called out "Baba," Arabic for Daddy, whenever she saw his face."

After performing his second tour of duty in Iraq stationed in Forwarding Operating Base (FOB) Alamo, John McPherson of the US Army accepted Islam and married Huda Al Anbari:
'Islam has just given me so much perspective in life. Before, all I ever cared about was drinking in the bar, salsa dancing on the bar dance floor, and chasing women all around the bar. But now I feel my spirit is uplifted and I feel alive again. Huda and I are expecting our first child this December and once my visa is cleared we will be relocating to Thailand.'

I'm not sure I would be so quick to marry a new convert. I also, think they should stick to their own kind.

Ismahan123,
Based on what guiding principle do you say that? that's baseless religiously, actually contrary to religion, but I suppose if that's the way you think.
Advo,
hey don't hate on brother Yahya (John), say masha'Allah.
he's gonna be a father soon

GEDO,
Based on a proven theory that love can make you do crazy things.

Re: American Soldiers Marrying Iraqis
yeah, but sticking to your own kind doesn't ensure sanity while in love.
Remember, Beyonce went 'Crazy In Love' after getting involved w/ a member of her own race.

Re: American Soldiers Marrying Iraqis
One thing I have noticed recently is, Muslim women are targets for none Muslim men.
Re: American Soldiers Marrying Iraqis
1nemansquad,
I admit I didn't read the whole article but the part I skimmed all had Americans who 'converted' to Islam.......now we are not in a position to say their conversion was fake and I'd rather not assume that.

Gedo, I was talking about in General. Somehow I trust a born Muslim more than I trust a convert, I don't know why.

Women are always known to be traitors... If aliens were to attack earth you'll see bunch of women running off to marry them..

Offcourse it not ensured with our own race, but I think one have advantages being with someone from his own race or ethnicity. I'm just speaking from a personal point of view, I feel as though the Somali culture is dying and we need to preserve it. However, its known that when Somalis mix with other races or ethinicities, they tend to be the ones to adopt to the other's culture or sometimes religion, thus the reason why I think we as Somalis should also stick to our own.
