Gheedi and Abdullahi Yusuf always wanted to meet the opposition and have tried it several times. Rememeber when ICU was in Mogadishu and the TFG was in Baidoa, TFG wanted to meet with ICU. ICU played holier than thou card. Even recently when the 2 were in Saudi Arabia, the TFG was open to meet with the opposition again they refused. I guess now they will agree because they know that the so called Shabaab is making them irrelevant. So, it is in their interest to join the TFG and come in from the cold if they want to have a say in what happens in 2009.

What ever your views are, the reality is that the TFG was given legitimacy by the powers that be. Now whether one negotiates with it or fight against it, at least the course of action should result in some value added outcomes for the opposition, otherwise what is the point of fighting or negotiating right?

The ICU failed to levarage its position when it could have done and the shabab are not assessing what their hit and run ambushes is accompolishing. Contrary to shabaab's expectations, the Ethiopians want to extend their stay in Somalia until "African peace-keepers replace them"

In terms of numbers it is Somali civilians that suffer the most collateral damage of the anti Ethiopia excursions of the shabaab. More Somalis die than Ethiopians.
