They were the best thing that happened to Somalia, but their chief mistake was their territorial aspirations.

If they had controlled Jubba and Shabelle Regions, Benadir, Hiiraan, and Galguduud, they would have been in a great situation for diplomatic or military action. It was their tampering in government strongholds like Bay and Mudug, even Gedo to some extent, that led them in the wrong direction. They should've avoided the government at any cost.

I knew that night when they were trading artillery fire with the TFG in Bur Hakaba that it was over, and within a week, they ceased to exist altogether. I doubt they will ever be back, but they will certainly be missed.

Paidmonk,

I think if they had focused on securing & rebuilding Banadir alone would have been more fruitful & long lasting. By then, other regions would have all lined up to pledge their allegiance & adopt similar courts.

I guess it just wasn't meant to be, we shall see!

I blame the bloody Jadiids, they infiltrated the UIC and planted in their midst snitches & double-agents. Saudi money can do wonders! I personally think the Saudi monarchy worked hard to destroy the UIC.

Alluring,

To be very honest with you, both houses were in Casa Populaire in Hodan district, both were looted by HG families, one family were actually Mooryaan. We made several attempts at buying the families out, my father even offered them $1,000 each plus moving expenses, but they always refused.

Finally, in 2006, we heard that the UIC had formed a commitee to return thousands of looted properties to their rightful owners, so my brother & I went back, presented our documents and met with a HG judge who oversaw the whole process. The judge told both families they had a week to evacuate both houses, they immediately complied. Best day of my life! up

LG,

The return to Mogadishu was the highlight of my life, one crazy roller-coaster ride. We traveled for what seemed like an eternity only to land in Kenya, take a charter plane to Bali Doogle, take a bus to Mogadishu. Upon entering the city, I was shocked, I thought I'd entered a twilight zone, the whole city looked like it was bombed to the stone ages! Laughing

People were everywhere, in front of Banadir hospital, people had set up little "shops" selling everything from expired medicine to raw meat and electronics, donkeys, cows & people were walking in the middle of the road, it was a hoot!

During my stay, I actually managed to meet with some OG youngesters who came from Afmadow to fight for the ICU, my cousins took me to a camp that housed a lot of Daarood ICU men. They must have been in the hundreds, I was very surprised, because I'd always believed ICU soldiers were only Cayr.

Walaahi to be honest, the ICU did a lot for the residents, I could see it on the people's faces, they seemed so happy, like something heavy had been lifted off their shoulders!

Koronto,

I think people misunderstand me when I say it was a this outfit or that outfit. Theres no way they could have captured all the territory they did and accomplished all they did if they didn't have support of most qabils. Theres no question in terms of manpower etc. that they had most Somalis among them, lakin what I was referring to was the LEADERSHIP. I think they exploded way too fast and they should have been more patient to weed out the corrupt ones from the sincer ones. Also the Ogadeen Governer they had Ahmed Madobe I think was also a class act.

LG,

Nobody can deny that the leadership made grave errors which cost the UIC big time. But, the leadership consisted of different men with different agendas, of course things were bound to go wrong, some members were determined in expanding very rapidly, others wanted to concentrate on the home front. Oh, well, shyt happens, time to focus on the present, I guess!

True. However I have to admit. The job they did in Xamar was unbelievable. Too bad it took 16 years for something like that to happen.

That has been my stance the whole time. May Allah grant Somalia a peaceful existence and give us the opportunity to return to our motherland in one piece, aamiin.
