Shirib, it was a failure for the Americans was it a victory for Somalis? The Americans was not there as an imperialist wanting to colonize Somalia, in fact what would they have gained from Somalia except another mouth to feed? They were trying to get murderous thugs who were using humanitarian food to starving Somalis as pure hard capital. I do not see where this misconceived victory you are rooting for comes from.
Things are not as simple and naive as that. ever heard " aint nothing such as free lunch"?

if those mooryaan had a n ounce of training or dicipline,

Delta Force not trained for conventional combat?

The US army hand picks the very best army personnel for Delta Force, so they already excelled at conventional warfare before they even started Delta Force training.

The whole idea of Delta Force is they can take on an entire army by themselves.

The Army Rangers are less elite, they do mostly scouting and "behind enemy lines" missions. It was 18 Army Rangers that died.

If any Delta Force guys died it wouldn't have been reported. Delta Force doesn't officially exist.

There's supposed to be some Delta Force sniper with over a hundred kills.

james
sniping in an enivronment like iraq, somalia or afghanistan for an american
soldier is a piece of cake.

for an iraqi sniper with no support to get high hits is an achievement.

There was a Palestinian sniper that had some absurd number of IDF kills, like 40 or something.

The "Victory" of the SNA was phyric if there ever as one.

First of all, they lost well over 100 fighters that day KIA, not to mention the number WIA.

Secondly, the Hawiye lost over 1,000 clan members, as a great many "civilians" took part in the fighting but did not know what they were doing.

Thirdly, they expended enormous ammunitino resources, such that whn the fight was over and the Americans pulled out, the SNA were reduced to the status of just another faction. Two years latter, Aideed was dead in a pissant gunfight and the SNA was dad with him.

The Hawiye could ill afford to have any more victories like that one.
I must admit that the USC did a good job on humiliating the Americans and took the fight to the Americans. Compare this the pussies that are in Moqdishio now and you have totally cowards who throw mortars from 20 miles down
May Allah destroy you. The USC will return and kill the amxaaro. After that,we will slaughter you Laughing
This is how myths start. A couple convoys of American soldiers prepared only for a grap and snatch quick mission get bogged down in a 2 million strong hostile city where every one is armed, still 1000 somalis die and only 18 americans, and somehow it is a "victory" Laughing Laughing
Well, you should know better since you are the Myths-expert.

The events after 3 Oct 1993 show who has achieved its objective and who has failed...and victory or failure is only judged according to that not how many people died.

In Vietnam more then 2 million died, and just 100.000 Americans...yet it was a sweet victory for the Vietnamese people.

In 1993, US/UN wanted to capture Aideed dead or alive before they identified him as the obstacle to their mission in Somalia, for this objective they brought in the US rangers.

Since June 1993, the hunt starts...and culminates in 3 Oct battle which is according to the US Military the most intense battle since Vietnam war.

At the end, the US Rangers that came to the area for the ''snatch'' were locked in...and had to run litterally to the Stadium...hence the famous ''Mogadishu Mile''.

Many Somalis died...and a few Americans died.....but after 3 Oct 1993, US stopped their hunt for Aideed and set a date to withdraw..thus ending their mission for Somalia.

The clear winner was thus Aideed which achieved his objective: staying alive and out of the hands of the US...and ultimate goal of: Stopping the UN mission.

--------------------
I can understand that for Somalis, who perceive everything through the clan lens, it is difficult to acknowledge that simple reasoning and conclusion.

Heck, my own father was on the wrong side of history...still I can look at the events objectively and give credit to who deserves.

3 Oct 1993: History was written...and Somali ragtag militia showed to the world that the US will is not Law.
