Gedo, actually the Mac Pro is one of the best desktops you can buy today and it would run a game like Crysis effortlessly. I am just looking at the allroundability of the machine. I have never tried an apple product before so I want to see what difference it would make if the software was built for that specific piece of hardware. The stability. I have been a windows user all my life and I think its time for a change. Specially with the new ones being able to have both xp and mac os. The resale factor is important as any PC game loses its value almost instantly while a mac would retain it for years, check ebay for recent apple macs and see how much they're getting sold for.
I have not tried linux before, is it any good?[/quote]
Ben Dover,
It sounds like you would be better off w/ the MacPro since you know what you're missing with a PC. You can run Windows in the latest OS X Leopard.
There is tighter hardware/software integration with Apple's Mac & you won't see viruses/adware/spyware in the PC world.
In fact, the Mac OSX core is built on UNIX so if you get an Apple you can get a smooth introduction to UNIX (which is pretty similar to Linux) at the user level.
So if you get a Mac you can:
1. Get introduced to UNIX command line capabilities:
http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/ltigerunix/#top
2. Run Windows if you really need to on Mac.
3. Have a beautiful multimedia OS.
4. Not worry about adware/virus/spyware written for Windows platforms.
These are all good reasons, I don't think gaming or resale value is a great reason b/c the Windows world has a whole lot of gaming options and although resale value might be higher w/ Macs, you will be paying a lot more for them and also b/c there are so many options w/ PC manufacturers.
